And Then There Were None Book Discussion

Okay all! Let's pick a date to start reading the book. Someone, on another thread, sugested maybe the week after Thanksgiving (American holiday on Thursday, November 27th). That sounds good to me. Now, I'm going to be a bit busy from now on. I'm going to try and read the book because it does sound good, but I don't want to kid myself, I know I won't keep up with the group. Because of that I'll leave the Chapter discussions to be left in charge of the mods. Let them actually work for a change, lol! ;) Now, I was told that unlike 'Interview With The Vampire', this book does have chapters, and they are short chapters. So, the check points are going to be by the chapters obviously, but I'll let you all decide wheather or not you want to do a check point after every single chapter if they really are short chapters. I'll also let you mods pick the time frame you feel is sufficiant enough to have before each check point thread is created. But bare in mind to put up a time frame type schedule thing for the rest of us to read.

Now everyone keep in mind to use the same rules and guidelines about spoilers and what not with the last book we had. For any new readers, or for anyone who doesn't remember the rules, I'd sugest reading my rules and guidelines thread. I'm bumping it up after I post this.

Well, my library is really small, and doesn't have it, so I wasn't able to get the book today. So this week(I most likely won't get around to it until Friday night) I will go downtown to the bigass, 4 floor library.

I can't be bothered to look back, but Chris said the week after American Thanksgiving. If I am right that would be this thursday? So is starting next Monday(Dec.1st) convenient for everyone. I assume that would give people enough time to get the book? I have the day off on the 5th, so I could set up the first checkup thread that morning.

Andi: Do you have the book yet? How long are the chapters, and what do you think should be the first checkup chapter(Assuming you have the book)

I have the book. The first chapter is divided into 7 or 8 sub-chapter thingys, and the second chapter is divided into about 12. The sub-chapters are anywhere from half a page to 2 pages long. if that helps...

Well that wouldn't make for a long discussion for a check point every 2 pages, so might as well do it at the end of every normal chapter instead of sub chapters.

And it doesn't matter whether you have "And Then There Were None" or "Ten Little Indians," because one's the British title and one's the American title.

Points for someone if they can guess which one is which

And Then There Were None must be the American title if I'm guessing right.

Okay, so where do you want the check points?  Seems to me that every chapter might be overkill.  How about every 5 chaps?

I would suggest that the discussion points should be after each murder.  Since this is a murder mystery, we could then each say who we think the murderer is.

I know we picked next week to start, but do we have a date set? Like beginning of the week, end of the week? I know Riley sugested the beginning I think, but I just want to see where everybody stands at the moment.

Personally I have a billion things to do. I do intend to read the book, but I'll be a bit behind you guys, like I already stated. So I don't care when you all start. I figure once I catch up I'll just post on your old threads like we did for Interview when people were catching up.

Well, I'm betting that the chapter would end after a murder.  Tell y'all what...  I'll start reading and see if I can figure out which chapters have the murders.  Maybe we can combine the two approaches.

I'm brilliant. I quit my job when I didn't have anything else for work lined up. Well, I didn't get my copy of the book yet. After rent I have a little under $20 left until I find a new job. So until I am gamefully employed again, I won't be buying the book and reading it with you. Sorry guys!

I have the book and I thought I was probably behind, so I read up to page 100.  That's about half the book.  Also, it's a pretty fast read.  Should we start the actual discussion yet, wait awhile?

Chris, hope you find a new job.
