I decided it would be best to start this thread for those of us who have completed...I have a couple theories but they arn't really formulated properly.

We know that Eragon plans on going to the elves place...mersmerella or something like that...

I will leave it here..post your theories, I will post my own later

I am almost positive that Eragon is Murtagh's brother. And I also am just as positive that Galbitorix wants Murtagh as his next foresworn Dragon Rider. What do you all think?

Oh another thought. I really really really think the twins are the traiters in the Varden. Galbitorix probably promised them to have power beyond what they already have.

I totally agree, Don't you think it was odd that the twins summunned Eragon to the exact place a shade would arive to kill him? I definitly believe they are traiters and are one step from becoming shades themselves...in fact i can see them becoming shades in the future.

I never thought of it, but i could see murtahg being a dragon rider...i do however think it would be to predictable for them to be brothers...I mean it is possible, Murtahg's mother head out with him at the age of 4...and if she was pregnant with eragon, it would explain her disappearance

Exatly, the way he described the time frame to Eragon, it leads the reader to come to that conclusion. Maybe not neccecrily the same father, that isn't totaly important, but I think they share the same mother. I do think most likely the same father also, but I at least think the same mother. No, one thing I think is maybe the son of a Rider is more likely then your average Joe to become a Rider himself. If that's true, then it does sort of explain Eragon and why he found Saphira instead of some other hunter.

Wow. I figured the twins were the traiters, but it never crossed my mind that they could be Shades in the future. Although it doesn't seem like something someone would want. I mean it is like the person who was in existense is destroyed and the Shade takes over the human's body. I don't know if you watch the show 'Angel', but the last two episodes were a cliff hanger type thing and they are going threw something similer (and probably why I came up with the idea) on the show with one of the characters. But thinking about it, Galbatorix probably offered the twins a way to gain more power then they ever had. Maybe he offered them the dragon eggs. If they became Riders, they would be extremely formidable opponants since gaining the power of a dragon will sevearly increase their level of power. That may have been the key to win them over. Personaly I think he only planned to give one of them an egg though. I think that if that is what he offered, he would give one an egg and hope for a Rider. Then the other he would order to do a spell so extreme that spirits would take him over and make him a Shade. That way he gains a Rider and a Shade. Although it's possible he wanted them both to be Shades and neither of the twins to be Riders. And I already beleive Galbitorix wants Murtahg as a fellow Rider. It just makes sense after their conversation. I think he is definatly trying to get an unstoppable army. And this is a good way to do it. Urgals under the spell of the Shades. Two more Shades. And lastly a new Dragon Rider. And if things went exactly as he wanted he would have gained information from the Elf and would have gained Eragon as a Rider. Galbitorix is definatly obsessed over absolute power, IMO.

Here is a thought. In Angela's prohpecy, didn't she say Eragon would be betrayed by a relitive? I can't remember and I don't have the book next to me to check. If Murtagh IS Eragon's borther, then that means it could easily be him and not Roran. I mean he is prooving himself well, but nobody went into his head when they were supposed to, so we really don't know his intentions or if he is easily corrupted. I think if Galbitorix offered to make him a Rider, he would take him up on the offer, thus betraying Eragon.

Also, when Roran marrys that woman from the village that would make her family by marrige. So that could enevitably include her and her father (Want to say his name was Slone? He was the one Eragon's family hated.). I could picture him betraying Eragon in a heart beat.

Hey, what about the rock Roran leaves behind that Eragon gave him? They never described it before that point and he made it sound important when writting it. I wonder if when Eragon and Roran meet up again they will mention it.

I finished last night!

Given the predicablity of the plot and the (fairly obvious)hints, I am sure that Murtagh and Eragon are brothers.  If they have the same father, and the father is Morzan then it would explain why Brom would give Eragon the sword.  It is then actually his birth right.  The magci woman, Angela, cast the fortune of Eragon's mother, which she refers to several times.  In the end, its clear that Brom and several others know that she had a second child and hid it.  Brom had probably already figured out that Murtagh was NOT going to be a dragon rider. I am guessing that the reason he got the scar on his back, from his father was because he didn't 'commune' with any of the dragon eggs and therefore his father was angry.  There is a small chance the he simply refused to go near the egg, but I think that's unlikely for a 3 year old.  So....long way around to...I don't think he's a dragon rider too.  He will, of course, marry or pair up with Nasuada, and Eragon with Arya, even though she's about a 100 years older than he is.LOL

I suck. I'm bad at finding hints. Usualy I don't catch on until they are pointed out. I didn't even think that Morzon actually brought Murtagh to the Dragon egg. And if he did, I doubt that Galbatorix knew about it, because Galbatorix, IMO, seems to want him as a rider.

Hmm, I know Sandy finished. I think Amanda is the only one still reading so I'm not going to bother posting up any more checkpoints since everyone went ahead and read until they finished lol. When Amanda catches up I'll start the next book vote I guess.

Okay, since everybody has finished it already, their truly is no need for more checkpoints, ha! Well, I'll leave this thread open until about Friday for discussion, then I'll start up the vote for the next book I guess.

Obviously bare in mind just because I say I'm leaving it open until Friday, that means that is just when I'll start the next vote and you can still post here if you wish.

I agree with MadEye's assessment.  Except, that it could still be argued that the sword is Murtagh's by birthright seeing that he is older than Eragon.  Still, not as far off as giving it to a stranger.

I liked the werecat too.  Nice sarcasm.

Yeah, I still would think the sword is Murtagh's because he was older and Morzon would want him to have it since he actually knew that son.

What I predict is this: the Elves are the people who make the Riders their swords. Eragon is going to the land of the Elves in Eldest (so we are led to beleive at this point anyway). I think Eragon will get his own sword, and then Zor'rok will be passed on to it's rightful owner, Murtagh. Wheather or not Murtagh becomes a Rider and is the one to betray Eragon or not, I can only speculate obviously, but if it does or does not happen I still think Murtagh will end up with Zor'rok in the end. Zor'rok was the sword's name, right? I can't remember if it was that or some name similer to that.
