Okay, I watched Interview With the Vampire on DVD a few hours ago. Well that got me back in the mood for the Chronicles. I'm skipping Mummy since you both finished it and I'll go back on my own. And I changed my mind on The Witching Hour books and I'm jumping right into Memnoch, the Devil tomorrow after I get out of work. I'll start a little discussion for it tomorrow. You guys ready, willing, and able?

Im more then willing! I think its the most controversial book she wrote, and you know how after you finish a book it stays in your thoughts for a few days...for me it was 2 weeks. Her perception in the book is almost credable. I am 20 pages into witching but can't seem to get ahold of it yet.

To answer your question, as i have before Chris...i just go to the other board for amusement. I get bored, so i go "surfing". I have yet to commit to another HP board, and probably wont. I havn't bothered trying to create a new login for the new board after my old one(squall) was deleted. Narc is wrong though, i could be an ass. But i won't, because that would hurt you lads on the new HP board! So i occassionally go looking, usually refraining from posting unless it is blatently stupid, or something actually interesting.(iv posted 5 times) and all with my "locke" alias. Its not like im hiding who I am.

BTW you need to fix the images at the top of the board here...i see "IMAGE DOES NOT EXIST" 5 times.

Im keen on the discussions, we need to start another book too.

Weird, AOL is stupid and I see all 5 imiges. Maybe it's stored into the memory or something lol.

Yeah, I was going to start it tonight after work but I went out for dinner. And I was originaly thinking I had tomorrow off but I'm working 8-4 or 8-5, not quite sure, so I think I'll just wait until tomorrow lol.

I'm immersed in a Short Stories Volume right now called the Dragon Quintet. That and I picked up The Darkness That Comes Before, written by someone from my city, but it's pretty good seller I guess in Canada...problem is he is smart and i get lost in the language sometimes...you know when someone jumbles a bunch of complicated words together, you need to translate them before you understand if he's wasted or not.

Haha, yeah, I've had that problem before I think lol.

I have started (for a change lol), and I am enjoying it more then TTotBT. To me TVL and TQotD were practicaly the same book. So far I'm about 60 or so pages into the book, chapter 4 or 5 I think, and I think it definatly makes up for TTotBT not being as good as the first three. Now I loved the first three to death, but as I said I consider the 2nd and 3rd to be one book, so I really am only compairing this one to IwtV and TQotD. So far it's giving Interview a run for it's money, but I'm liking it for different reasons then I liked Interview. Not so sure if it'll beat TVL/TQotD yet, but I think it will definatly be as good or close to Interview. I'm not religous at all in any religon, and the way she wrote this book and mixed religon into it, it is definatly grabbing my ttention more then any other book having to do with religon would.

Mandy, have you started yet?

Yes it is a more pratical religion, one that actually makes some sence...not in a fully scientific way, but not in a fully spiritual way. I enjoyed it because I have "religious" roots...after 3 yrs of burying them and keeping the values that i believed were true, and disgarding others(while attaining a few others...) I have drawn my own perception of what is good or bad. Not Gods perception as determined by the catholic/christian faiths. This perception is very close to that of Annes in the book, so i connected with it more then any other book i have read in a while. I agree with TVL and QOTD being the same book, it is the backstory of lestat. I actually didn't like IWV that much. Louis is a puss. Lestat has the arragance and intelligence, and sometimes foolishness that i value in myself.

Louis is probably one of my favorate characters I've read about in the series so far. I think I like him a bit more then Lestat actually.

Did you finish the book, or are you still reading it? If you finished it did you move on and what book are you on now? I've just finished the first long chapter in it, so I'm around page 112ish I think? Roger just passed on to the other side, Lestat started yelling at the creature to not let Roger go (I have to assume by the title that it is Memnoch, but don't answer that lol). All I can say is this book is really drawing my attention.

I'm maybe half way through it now. Now I know most people say her books prety much went down hill in this series after The Queen of the Damned, but I disagree. Yeah, The Tale of the Body Thief wasn't as good as the first four, but it did not suck by any means, it was a great seperate story from the rest of the first three. I think People looked at the first three as all fitting together in a series, or rather the same story seperated into 10 instalments (like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings so to say). If you look at it like that then you prety much consider TQotD and TVL the same story, with IWtV as a seperate backstory from another perspective. But you shouldn't be looking at it like the same story. It's the same character's, yeah, and their lives, but it is different stories of their lives. That's why people didn't like them after TQotD, IMO. Because they looked at the first three as the same story with a lot of back story and from multiple points of view. It could reasonably be looked at it that way, yes, but in the long run each had it's own story so you should look at them seperately. That's how I do it and I love everything I've read so far in the series. Some more then others, but that's bassed on personal opinion of content, not from looking at it how I think others are looking at it.

Now, as for this book, it's really grasping my attention. I could read it for hours on end if I had the time. I'm at the point where Lestat and Memnoch are waling in the forest before the ice age, after they left Heaven. They aren't in sequance with time is my understanding of it. I had to put it down in the middle of the chapter because of lack of sleep was making me fall asleep, but I like all of the ideas Memnoch is throwing around to Lestat about how God created Matter not knowing what it was or what would happen. It's really interesting to me, and I hate most things that have to do with religon so that IS saying something to have it come from me.

Locke, how far are you in the reading? I know you finished Memnoch the Devil, but have you moved on and read anything else after that? Like the next in the Vampire Chronicles or started The Lives fo the Mayfair Witches yet?

Also, since I seemed to mess it up and read it out of order that I sugested we read the books, I want both of your opinions: Should the next book we read in our Anne Rica-A-Thon be The Vampire Armand, or The Witching Hour? Both of them are about as interesting to me at this point as the other, but for different ways, so it doesn't matter to me. I guess since we need a 2/3 vote on it if you two vote the same I'll be happy, but if you two vote differently then I'll throw in a vote after I see what you two say.

My witching hour is in the work truck...yes i read on the way to the construction site...i can't read it at home because my mom is very strict against witchcraft or anything "evil". Hardcore religious, thus my non-hardcore but basic christian morals(another reason that i didn't get around to hp till i was 19).

I don't have the vampire armand, i can go order it from the library. Im not too keen on it but am planning to read it anyways. I hate armand the most, out of all the vampires(after qotd). It will be interesting tho, because of the ending of Memnoch(i wont spoil it for chris)

Really? Armand is one of my favorates I think.

She won't let you read a book? And to top it off how old are you? And to add insult to injery, she lets you read The Vampire Chronicles, which at the end of the series and in QotD incorperates Anne Rice's version of witchcraft into the series? I think it's time to move out lol.

I suppose I should have included some back history. I graduated OAC(grade 13 in canada, which no longer exists now) 2 years ago. I moved out because I wasn't excepted into my program of choice.  I had worked since I was 16, so maintaining a Job was simple.  After a year of working in Concrete Construction, I decided this was the life for me. I love working with my hands and I love working outdoors. I also like learning and reading.  Now to give you more background, I excelled in Biology, Music, and Construction Technology.  I Didn't really have the urge to go into any of the fields(I was thinking on Evironmental Science but i figure I would still be "poor" after school was done).  So 2 years have passed. Im 21, and for the last 2 months of the Summer I moved back home to "save money"(2 months of rents and bills adds up to about 4 months of residence).  So I am back home for the summer.  This year I am going to school for Constructional Engineering(A trade that won't kill me when I'm 40, and will make me reasonably well off, while doing things I love, making things that last for centuries.)  Going to school this year was kinda a hasty decision, within about 2 days I had decided to go to school, and had applied for 5 programs at 2 different schools, Having high grade 13 advanced marks, I easily got in.(its college so you get to add 15-20% to your mark if you took advanced.)

Thats my story, at least for the last few months.  So she can't stop me from reading, but I wouldn't intentionally piss her off.  Not when I'm under her roof, or eating her food.

It is slightly unpleasent, I can't drink at home, swear, watch movies with "witchcraft"(supposedly Smallville has witchcraft in it...we had a spat over that.)  None of these issues are a big deal to me, I'm not really materialistic.  So I read on the way to work(2hr drive both ways, i sleep as well...) I am 60 pages into Mayfair, its getting interesting.

So, to put a long story short, I will be moving to school at the end of agaust(for the life of me I can't spell it right, right now.)

I change my IP alot, just because I move around, and change connections everynow and then to get the signup deals...I don't fully abuse them tho.  Cause you can only abuse them once really.

So if the HP board is hoping to ban my IP, they may as well wait till September, not that it matters, I have stopped posting.  No point, you lads are all gone.(Dammit why can't i leave the other board out of a post? I think LMM is right I have a serious addiction.)

Get reading!

Well, back to the subject, I finaly finished chapter 12 lol. It was where Memnoch takes Lestat to the area he landed when he was thrown from Heaven. I actually am really starting to root for Memnoch here lol!

What I want to see answered is Memnoch's answers for the entities that witches can see, like Maharet. Before she was turned into a vampire, she could not only see the spirits of the dead, but the entities that were always there. It's beginning to bug me now lol. That and I also want to learn about how things are sorted into heaven and hell and where vampires end up.

Okay so I found out that the entities that were always there prety much forgot they were once humans and that is why they don't know where they come from. That's prety interesting. And the fact they don't have to be human shaped explains why some are so emense in size. I'm prety far in, probably just past page 300ish now. I'm really liking Memnoch's character. Rock on devil!

Dense means: permitting little if any light to pass through because of denseness of matter. (Thats the dictionary version)
Basically means that you can hardly see through it, if at all.

Kind of like if someone calls you dense - it means that very little is able to penetrate your brain.

OH MY GOD! She killed off one of my favorate charecters! Poor, poor Armand! Damnit, I never cared much for David, should have killed him instead! I know it's what he wanted, apparently, but damn! And also Mael, I liked him too! I REALLY want to read The Vampire Armand now! I really want to see who's point of view it's in and stuff. It has me all wondering and stuff! Oh well, we'll do The Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy next before we do Armand.

I think Dora's reaction actually surprised me a lot more then Armand. Yeah, it's what both of them wanted deep down, proof of everything, but she seemed more reasonable and logical to just snap like that into hysterics after receiving the Veil from Lestat.

I wasn't pissed, as I'v said I don't like armand. But him dieing just seems to give me no point to read the book about him...I will for the sake of reading it, but i doubt i will enjoy it.

I may as well tell you since you dont care...this also pissed me off, David tells you that Aaron lightner died at the beggining of Devil book...Aaron is a big character so far in the beggining of the Mayfair book, and I am coming to like him, but I know he dies, so it pisses me off, to invest myself into a character that dies.

What pissed me off was that it didn't really go into details about how he died. Maybe it happens in another book not in the Chronicles and she made a quick reference to it here. Who knows.

LMM, I thought you said you weren't reading The Vampire Chronicles? You've read the 6th book in the series and none of the others lmao? That's brilliant!

Oh yeah, I kind of had a quick change of mind. I'm going back and reading The Mummy: Or Ramses the Damned before I tackle The Lives of the Mayfair Witches trillogy. That way it may give Amanda ...or Mandy, as I apparently forgot to call her by for a minute... time to catch up if she's ever avilable to get to the board and see how far we have. I think she said she finished Mummy, and I know you did, so that should let her catch up in Memnoch. Then again she did read it before so she may just skip Memnoch and join in on the next one. Who knows?

Also, that person (hp_fan) from the Department of Mysteries board the HP mods made said his little sister loves Anne Rice and may join in, so I gave him the link to the book club. Maybe she'll eventually join. And someone who chose an alias of the name Kerry online left a message on my web site's guest book saying she is interested in joining on our little Rice-A-Thon (I think I love that little name I spit out the other day lol), so we may have two more readers with us. But who knows if either of them will show lol?

Whos death chris? I assume you mean Lightner, I predict that his death will occur in the mayfair chronicles(as they were written before MtD)

If you mean Armands death, he killed himself to go see the devil/afterlife/God...he burned himself up in the sun out in front of the church, as a miracle for the vail.

IM back to posting here Chris, just posted alot on the other board...I had to move my stuff to school this weekend so I've been preoccupied.

Plus I probably just lost my job, I lost the Boss's keys(I used his shop to store my furniture, till i went to school)...and the keys contained all the automobile keys...picker, zoomboom, shack locks...shop locks...so Good bye job, hello early summer.

Alas, I didn't lose my job, just any respect, or trust I had gained thus far from the man. Which is sad because he really is a good boss. There is a possibility of finding the keys, but I have to go to my new place and thats 1 hr drive away..and I can't talk anyone into taking me. Oh well, our Picker Truck(that carries Concrete forms) broke down today...so he isn't gonna need the spares anytime soon. You lads go ahead read, I found a copy at my chapters, i just have to go in and pick it up.

Sadly LMM, we will have to cut off our battles, Narc is on alert, so Im not gonna bother posting for a long while...probably not till September.

Mad Eye, I missed you there, but your back! Hey, why doesn'y anyone use the other board?(AKA the Alliance Board)

I don't like the format to the Alliance Boards so I don't use it. Riley seems to not be online ever anymore. And I don't know who else uses it or not.
