I've read blogs from people in Baghdad, people that no longer leave the Green Zone. And letters from Marines and so on. So maybe it is all perspective but most of them don't see it the same way as the letter writer.
Attacks against American troops is way up. From a few attacks a day to 70 a day now. Bombs inside the Green Zone.
You can tell how the ground war is going by the number of air strikes called in. Air strikes means that the ground belongs t the enemy.
I believe some, even many Iraqis welcomed Saddam's departure and their liberation. When liberation started to take the shape of occupation, the welcome ended.
