Thanks Mondo. It's an honour to have my own posts selected to be placed here.
If Matt rebuts, I'll put it here too.
My aim is to encourage the use of reason in deciding whether things are true or not. I just finished reading Thomas Paine's AGE OF REASON and was so impressed, I'm working on honing my own skills to emulate his. (!)
Can the truth of a matter be determined through reason alone? I believe so ...... in the majority of cases. Christians usually genuflect back to the safety of, "non-believers can't understand because they haven't the benefit of the holy spirit to show them the truth" ....... and .......... "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise ......the natural man does not receive things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him .......the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God."
Those are nice trite phrases but .......... do Christians THEMSELVES actually adhere to any such principles in deciding what they believe to be true? Not at all! They need to discuss their own hunches with each other to get "confirmation" and ...... they constantly attempt to explain Christian stuff to non-believers in order to convince them -often arguing vehemently with non-believers ............. proving that .......... they don't consider non-believers to be any less understanding than themselves . If non-Christians cannot understand it, why do Christians keep attempting to explain? LOL.
