Response to Some Ponderings on Jesus |
|
I think of Jesus (or whatever was his real name) as a Jewish social reformer who helped many people who deserved and needed help. The gospel stories were written much later, based on oral (mouth-to mouth) approximations of what really happened many years before, plus mythology, plus fiction. At that time it wasn't a case of building high-moral, high quality communities that obeyed God at all times, but instead the emphasis was on maximizing the number of members, never mind their quality, with the help of suitable sales literature that most people could not read, but that was preached to members once a week as the only "education" that was available to most of them at that time. | |
