I think of Jesus (or whatever was his real name) as a Jewish social reformer who helped many people, and "turned around" bad people into "saints". making them, once they were fully qualified for entry, members of "The Kingdom of God", the artificial "family" where they were always under supervision and remained sinless; God, they believed, having forgiven them their past misdeeds as part of the baptism ceremony. These people "turned over a new leaf" with "the slate wiped clean" - they "restarted" their life, and were called "born again" children. When Jesus was said to have mentioned children he very likely meant these "children" of adult age, as also "The Poor" mentioned by Jesus were the members of that artificial "family", "the Kingdom of God", NOT the people still living in "the world" out there who had little or no money.
