We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

Costume Exchange?

September 12 2007 at 10:04 PM

What costumes do you all have from various holidays or dress-up trunks that you might be interested in doing trades with? We've got a bunch in different sizes for girl and boy so I'll have to take some pics tomorrow to put up here...

It'd be great to trade around and save ourselves a lot of $ and keep the kids interests sparked with some new dress-up clothes.

What a great idea!

I don't have many anyone would want as they're reeeally used but I have this cute little dinasaur one (no it's not barney :P ) but the top is missing. Another one I have that's really old but still cute is a little fleece mouse costume but it's been really used! I bought it at a second hand shop for like a quarter and all 6 of my kids were in it at one time or another. It's a cheap one though, not that thick BUT it's for like 12-18 months and so blanket sleeper pj's are great under it (it's usually snowing or close to it by then here). I have quite a few Josie and the Pussycats ones but I bet my youngest will want to wear them eventually. I'll have to go through my stuff and see what we don't want any longer. I bet I'm not remembering well so once I get in there and see what there is, I'm sure I'll be pleasently surprised. Last year I went as a frumpy middle-aged mom This year I'd like to go as an awesome fit mom but I don't think I can get it all together by then LOL

What do your kids want to be?

September 13 2007, 10:37 AM

Maybe that would help...

Mine: Mina 4 1/2 Cowgirl (a la Dora)
Nana 3 Little Red Riding Hood (OK, her big sis wants her to be this, lol)

Sounds like your girls are ready to roll! What size shoes does Mina wear? I have an itty bitty pair of pink cow girl boots and a pair that is 9 or 9.5 that are black. No other cowgirl things though. Or Dora! Or Little Red riding hood. But a red cape would be lots of fun for year round pretending!

Myla was really sure what she wanted in the past, but this year she keeps changing it. She has been a blue bedtime carebear, a lion, princess, and flapper girl. (that I sewed up when she was a baby) and we have dress up things too. But after sifting through the giant chest, a lot of it isn't really trade worthy. I'll look in the basement at the baby costumes though because those have years of life left in them. She is wanting to wear that same flapper that she had at age 1 again and it was cheap and easy to sew, so we may do a weekend sewing project together and make her a bigger one. She likes to browse the catalogs that come in the mail (how did our name get on those lists? lol) and she sees any fluffy, tutu style costume or wings and she wants those. Faries, tutu bumble bee, tutu lady bug. But she never sticks to the same thing and even changes her mind whie flipping through. So I think we'll just make a date and sew a flapper costume.

Zachary is going to wear a bunting costume we already have and I'm not sure about Johnny yet. We could use a boy 2T or 3T costume but if he doesn't get healthy, he won't be able to participate in any outdoor things in costume. ?? Now that I think about it, we have a really furry, fuzzy lion costume that is just the body, tail, and lion mane hood that he'd fit. Not sure if he'd enjoy it, hee hee hee, but it would fit.

I really do need to dig around. The boys go down for a nap in a while, so I need to get them out of bins and take inventory of what we have...

All girl stuff here...

September 13 2007, 1:19 PM

But I have a size 9 month flower costume, a 2T cheerleader costume (red, white & blue; it's a little worn on the wrist hems, Sarah liked to chew them, lol), I also have a Strawberry Shortcake hat that I made for Emma 2 years ago.

Emma is the most determined about what she wants to be this year: the pink Power Ranger from Power Rangers Mystic Force. HUH???? She's never even SEEN this show, but her summer day camp friends all played it during recess, and apparently she knows EXACTLY which one she wants to be. So, off to eBay I go, haha. As for Sarah & Katie, I'm still hung up on the Little Bo Peep and Sheep idea, since we have the sheep costume anyhow. Just gotta double check it still fits, although I'm pretty sure it does. So let me know if anyone wants any thing I listed!!

I have one costume

It's a pumpkin from last year and fits 2T at least. It's got the top as a hat with it. Here's a pic:
