We are a group of friends who have come together because we share the common bond of caring for someone who has Trisomy 21. We are here to share therapy tips, medical issues, laughs, accomplishments and yes, even frustrations. We embrace what Trisomy 21 has brought into our lives. We feel that it has taught us to appreciate the true meaning of life. We count our children as blessings! We will fiercely protect them and fight for their lives to be valued just as all other peoples' are. We share our pictures, our stories and our hearts here not only to provide friendship and support for each other, but also in the hopes that others will open their minds and their hearts to our unique children and, in turn, make a better world for everyone.

HI! This is my first time writing in though I've been reading and viewing this site frequently since March-I am 26 and my husband 28: we have a 4 year old and in March delivered a healthy baby girl-she just happens to have an extra 21st chrosome. We had no idea until she was born-and then even after she was born the Dr's couldn't decide wether to test her for trisomy 21 since the only sign she had was a slight look in her eyes (she was delivered face up, so the flattened facial profile wasn't a flag to them). Finally the tests came back and here we are today. Anyway, my question is regarding development-we are involved in PT/OT and early intervention, so far she is meeting all the "typical child" guidelines for development (she's 9 months old) she is also VERY vocal babbling all day "baba" "dada" we have also been blessed with a clean bill of health (everything has checked out so far). Has anyone else experienced this? We received her diagnosis but since then it's been very positive (of course we've had our ups and downs and tons of Dr appts to various specialists and we've had our dark days) Again, we are very thankful for all of the 'positives' that we're experiencing but am I wrong to keep my guard up (I am just afraid that our luck will end)????
I would love any input....

well...be happy that she doesn't have alot of issues...i'm a mom of a 5 month old son, Connor...he doesn't have issues so far...i think i feel like you...almost like they are too good and i'm waiting for the shoe to drop..i hope things stay great for you!!
Luckily with sites like this we can learn the signs of things to watch for and be on the ball..or on the drs right away to check things out...thats my view...I think t21 is like my daughter that has sb ...everyone is so different and so unique...there's no 2 with exactly the same probs, nor the same abilities...variety is the spice of life:)

hi your story sounds alot like mine we had no idea until after the birth and the doc's said she had almond shaped eyes so they were going to test her for DS we were surprised to find out she did but loved her no less we have also been very lucky she has been tested for alot of things but only has had a underactive thyroid which everyone in my family has. i feel like theres still things that need to be checked and things that need to be done but they say right now theres not and shes fine but it hard to accept when you hear about all that can go wrong its very scary and i often lose sleep at night wondering if everything is really ok but i have to keep reminding myself that we have been very lucky to have such a healthy little girl who has just turned 1 she is awesome and she amazes me everyday as i'am sure yours does too.
