After I had my DS last year the MD who discharged me mentioned that I should be on birth control for 1 year in order to let my body fully recover. I just thanked him, and did what I wanted to, which was to try again ealier than 1 year post delivery.

You can probably put on your chart that you are very religious and refuse birth control, it that is your reasoning.

You have to keep in mind that although you had a hard time conceiving, there are many, many, irresponsible women and very young women out there who don't use birth control, don't know about birth control, don't know that it would be best to wait to conceive, etc. Many hospitals try and address public health issues for those that may not have access to education like we do. It would be irresponsible for them to release patients assuming they are fully informed.
