Anna: I got a positive on a home test and when I called and said I got a positive they said, nicely, "Well, maybe, we'll see, could still be your trigger." So I think that is their standard line, in case your beta comes back low. I told them that none of my previous pee sticks had ever had a positive, so I really doubted that, plus with a Lupron trigger I only took half the amount of HCG, so very unlikely, but still they said, "We'll see". They had me wait 5 more, very long, days for beta. But, my beta came back good and then it was all smiles. I bet they just don't want to build up hopes.
Laura:
I think your Dr. sounds like a ... well I won't say but 'having a bad day' indeed! I agree that the other 'signs' sometimes make Dr.s nuts, totally, but once you said you did not BD... end of topic!
I did not have an u/s until my beta was over 1,500, too. I was, I think, 26 days post ovulation. All we could see was a bubble at my regular Dr.'s office (who looked just becuase she has been with me the whole time over the years of trying and was seeing my DH that night anyway and we told her... she was so happy she said asked us if we wanted a peek! Love her!) At the RE, with better equipment, we saw a bubble with some 'junk' in it, as my DH said. It was very faint but the start of a fetal pole and sac, but VERY FAINT! So, at this stage, totally changes day to day!
I agree, wait for those numbers... and ask to see a different RE at that office... jerk.

Hugs to you both,
Sara H
