Like you, I'm home a lot and don't have a ton of people to buy stuff for us (and have about $0 for this endeavor...). Do you mind sharing where/how you find contests to enter? Very exciting! I joined my local mom's group and they have a classified section where people sell used items for very discounted prices or give them away. I haven't jumped on anything, in part b/c I'm not sure if it's too early, and maybe in part b/c part of me really wishes we could give our baby new stuff. In any case, I love your creativity here and will try to follow in your footsteps!
