It comes from the schools around here. Unfortunately they have no policy restricting the kids from attending. They used to frequently check for lice, send infected kids home, and mandate a no nit or egg policy. Apparently it has become such a prevelant problem they no longer do this! CRAZY!!
SO unless you have school age kids you probably don't need to worry. Some precaustions include:
Using gel or mousse in your hair each day, with lots of hairspray.
Sending the kids to school with their hair up (for girls) and super short (for boys).
Having kids keep their jackets in a plastic bag inside their backpack (instead of hanging on the general rack in the classroom). High school kids are less likely to get it since they have lockers.
Encouraging kids not to share hats, have any close head to head contact, etc.
Lice cannot jump or fly... it has to be head to head contact, sharing pillows, couches, upholstered seats, etc.
We have been sleeping with olive oil saturated heads all week too! This is supposed to both help kill them as well as prevent any new transfer. I can re-treat them again on Friday. Hoping and praying we have eradicated this disgusting issue!!
