Anyone with homozygous MTHFR, successful w/o blood thinners?

Hi, I am homozygous MTHFR and take folate/B12 every day - but was told RE may want me on blood thinners before transfer and possibly after. I have had my homocystine levels tested and they are normal, so is it really necessary to have the thinners??? know many doctors have conflicting ideas about this. I tried them to help some previous cycles but wasn't successful anyway PLUS I started losing a lot of hair and hoped not to have to go through that again!

I am in the same situation, no elevated homocystein levels and I took/take baby aspirin (one) a day plus extra folate and B12. I have had no problems and have two kiddos, hoping for number three. No blood thinners and they are not necessary from my understanding unless you have elevated H levels..

I hope that helps!

Me too (dd and pg ment)

Hey Anna,

Like you and Willa I am Homo MTHFR. Found this out when going thru IVFs with my ex. My homocysteine levels have been checked regularly and have always been normal. I was @ Cornell with Dr Davis for my last 2 failed IVFs and he put me on heparin just to appease me as he didn't think it was causing a problem. At the at time, I was taking a folic acid/b5/b12 combo on top of the prenatal......still only chem pgs.

I am 39w pg with #2 and had a healthy dd in 2006.......no thinners, prenatals or anything extra......just a new DH, and HSG and bms????

Here is my history......

Good luck Anna. Hope for a BFP for you ASAP!!

Best,
Lindy

Your's is a wonderful story! How about that DQ alpha thing - it must have been right ... I appreciate your kind reply and also knowing you didn't need to worry about bloodthinners to be successful. Good luck with your pregnancy and the impending birth ... by the way, my Mum's bday is the 13th of July and she is a wonderful person so I'm sure your little one will be too!

Blood thinners

July 6 2009, 1:36 PM

I have homo MTHFR as well. I was first diagnosed b/c of increased homocysteine levels. But my first RE didn't believe in using blood thinners. He advised the increased folic acid/B6/B12 combo was enough, and the cysteine levels resolve themselves. Had one chemical under his care. The 2nd RE believed in using heparin during cycling and then upto about week 7 or 8. I had one failed cycle and one successful cycle with him.
