so at 25 1/2 weeks my babies are at the 40th and the 50th percentile. one was 1lb 12 oz and the other was 2lbs. everything looked really good. i have to go see a gastrointestinalogist for the gallbladder stones/attacks...my gall bladder is way up underneath my right rib. but other than that everything looks good! my cervix was b/tw 4.4-4.7cm and the MFM said today that we will aim for 38 weeks. doc was also totally fine with my 11 lb weight gain....i cant believe im almost 3rd tri!

that all sounds great!

3 tri will be here before you know it! Hopefully they can help you with the gall stones issue. sad.gif It's no fun to be dealing with something like this while you're pregnant, but I guess all you can do is just trust the Dr's.

Growth is great! I think it would be amazing to get to 38 weeks with a singleton, let alone twins!!! happy.gif

Sounds wonderful!

So glad all is going well!

I meant to ask, are your twins identical or fraternal? And, how do they decide who "Baby A" is?
(I am fascinated with twins so very curious!)

Congrats!

thanks sara -

they are fraternal. we figured as much bc i had two mature follicles on the clomid...one egg could have not made it and the other one could have split but that scenario is less common obviously. they confirm the fraternal nature by determining if there are two sacs and two placentas, which there are : )

That does seem most likely however...

January 12 2012, 4:32 PM

it has happened that if the egg splits early enough that it is possible for identicals to have different sacs... but in your case since you know there were two follicles it is really unlikely!

They have only found this out since genetic testing, before that two sacs was the deciding factor.
And, I only found out since I have two friends who are "mirror" twins that were in separate sacs. They are considered identical, since they came from the same egg, but actually they mirror each other. One has their heart on the right, one on the left... It's kind of crazy. However, they look the same!http://www.twinsrealm.com/twinsfaq.htm. Strange, right?

So cool! I am so excited for you! happy.gif

Hugs and thanks for the info!

....i know about the egg splitting early enough as well : ) there is basically a 1 in 9 chance of that happening with identical twins. i suppose it could have happened with this pregnancy but im not going to pursue genetic testing. my MFM said that they are probably fraternal based on the current facts of the situation so im going with that : )

....and actually

January 12 2012, 5:16 PM

i thought that the egg splitting early and the two sacs with two placentas was the more common scenario with identical twins...i just assumed that when it happened the egg usually split early so there would be two separate placentas. but the most common identical twin scenario is mo/di...they usually share the placenta but usually have their own amino sac. ....and a girl on my twin board said that ID twins with two placentas/two sacs is usually a 1 in 9 chance. ...sorry, i didnt know how much you wanted me to get into these details : )

Fraternals

January 12 2012, 5:39 PM

My US tech could tell from the thickness of the placental walls that they had not split. He didn't doubt it for a second so I guess after seeing them for years, he could call it.

Thats awesome! Hoping for 38 weeks and taking them home immediately. happy.gif

Oh this is great news. There is nothing like a good visit to help you propel in to the next stage. After only carrying one, major props for carrying 2.
