I used to run an 85 Honda Spree but now I run peds. I'll tell you why. The peds are much more stable especially at speed. It's the larger wheels.
Here's the peds and scoots I have and what I think of them.
First let me say that I bought all these scoots and peds cheap. Some in worse condition than others. The Honda Elite deluxe 150 was a real mess. Kids beating it aroun a field.
85 Honda Spree - carb and auto choke gave me problems, small and cramped even for my 150 lb. 5' 10" size.
85 Honda Elite Deluxe 150. Very smooth, good ride for a scoot. 4 stroke runs very well.Max speed over 60 mph in stock form. Poor gas economy (about 65 mpg max, most times 50 to 55 mpgs). Probably one of the best scoots made. Expensive parts but like most Honda parts they are still available.
1962 Velo solex, Simple and fun runs well. Motor can slip on front wheel in bad weather.
78 Honda Express in like new condition. Runs great, love the looks but not a long distance ped. (Cramped ride but not bad on short rides)
81 Yamaha QT - this is a shaft drive, very smooth and quiet
a little small ( This is Yamaha's answer to the Express) but a very nice ped. Single speed.
82 Yamaha Towny- This is a great ped! Two speed transmission, shaft drive, oil injection and a plastic fuel tank that will never rust and it's quiet. Good mileage and good speed. It's the ped I use when I make trips. Very comfortable and road worthy.
Just my two cents,
RobD
