winter removal & battery resistance

by themopedwhiz (no login)

yes for people who have to park the peds in the winter ..
removing the battery and giving it a tricke charge every 2 weeks would likley keep the thing good

i would say the drain down is a consistent property of lead acid batteries, and the small batteries have such fragile plates they can't recover from being allowed stay used for long periods..

the permanet magnet is going to remain a factor , because it is needed to power the system andfire the cdi pulse unit..

i think to be viable , the control will need a xformer ( like a "lambia" switching supply ) to step up the voltage a low RPM's and switching to keep it at the proper 7.2 charging (6volt) 14.4 (12volt) [ NU50 ]

the same thing for the headlight side

basically a 2 circuit switching supply using the alt for input instead of 110volts

now that you have me thinking about it, there are lots of surplus switching supplies around for 5v and 12v circuits at electronic surplus stores like 'all electronic' or 'national'

i know the nc/na 50's are 6volt untill 81 or 82
but it would be no problem just to change all the lamps and make them 12v
