I don't get it: search function

Hi,

I just don't get it. I try and search the forums before posting a question, but it seems like the search feature is not very effective. When I click one of the links that were found, it is like the thread is never on the page that comes up.

Any suggestions? Does anyone have any tricks they use to effectively search this website? I wish the numbering system were more user-friendly...
