yes you can switch intakes

but you also need to keep the carb with the intake as a set.

if you can swap the points plate & flywheel from the 79 to the 82 then you will save yourself some work involving the wiring harness and CDI..

if you run into a problem pulling either flywheel off..

then stick to the wiring swap and leave the engine orginal..

DOnot .never.never crank / kick over a cdi motor ..IF you disconected the ignition coil from the CDI..

honda warns that this can cause a voltage spike that will damage the CDI..

a new one will cost about $60.00
