I would try setting the idle mixture screw to LEANER. My 79 express did just that for awhile, and I was thinking vacuum leak and the whole bunch, just about ready to tear apart the entire engine and replace the crankcase seals and whatnot, when I tried adjusting my carb one last time and solved all my problems.
