it sounds like your talking about one of the main winding coils, possibly the charge circuit coil.

the red must be the color of the varnish-enamel on the wire.

if it got fried, the circuit was shorted out somewhere in the harness connections, diode ? wires backward at batterry, or shorted at the headlight? or somewhere..

i need to see it , too be sure.

and you tell which wire it is hooked too going out of the motor case
