You can get a new battery from J.C Whitney for $8 plus shipping.
It is important because if you keep trying to start it with a bad battery, it will burn out your headlight and other bulbs. And headlights are expensive. $30.
And remember if you replace smaller
bulbs, turn signal etc, they are 6 volt.
