NO loose wires ..

it should connect somewhere

but we need a color and or some pictures, so we can tell you what is wrong

there are wires for

charge circuit

headlamp

igniton

ground

sounds like it is either the igniton wire or the ground wire..

or the wire that belongs on the points ( ignition power )

that woild be my first guess for sight unseen trouble shooting
