Re: Need some basic help on my 1981 Honda express carb settings

The official way is to set the bottom screw (idle air mixture) to 2 and 1/8th turns out. Then start the bike and run it until it has warmed up.
When it's plenty warm, you turn the top screw (throttle stop) out until the bike is just barly running. You wont beleave that it hasnt died when you get it low enough.
Then you slowly turn the bottom screw no more then 1/4 turn in eather direction to find the position where it idles best, and turn it a hair past that. Then you turn the throttle stop screw up until the back wheel is ever so slowly turning when off the ground. Give it a few revs and let it back down to an idle to see if it will hold there. Ta dah!

Of course, before you do this you should take apart the entire carb and clean it out real well, as well get a new air filter. Both of these will greatly effect air mix and such and totally throw off the settings.
