YES you can change the weights in the variator

NO you can NOT leave out the washer

the spacing you remove/grind/machine must be replaced in the form of the washer to make sure the pulleys stay aligned

other wise the drive belt will be shreded in just a few days, because it is being pulled sideways and rubbing on the edge of the pullies

lighter weights in the variator will keep the variator in lower gear longer before shifting

heavier weights will shift gearing sooner

this can be done with out moding the variator pulley size/gap

in fact if the drive ratio of the variator is changed , it is better to go with heavier weights to max plate grip against the belt for max speed.

but yes when moding the variator you change the whole drive ratio

both starting and final, this is why acceleration suffers, a side benifit is even better gas mileage

if you ride miles on country lanes you will like this mod

if all your riding is stop & go in the city , you will NOT care much for it.

for the city, I recomend lighter weights in the variator and a good exhaust such as the biturbo, done properly , with a tuned carb, and you can get some real performace gains at the stop light
