Just so I understand everything right...
With no washer, the low end acceleration stays the same and the belt is fine, but once it reaches top speed to make use of that extra bit it is sent too far sideways and starts to fall apart?
That part makes sense, but by putting a washer in, shouldnt the problem be reversed?
Wouldnt the plates only be alligned at full speed, and the low end/idle now be out enough to ruin the belt?
Or, does it just not matter much because little time is spent at the lower speeds?

Also, is one end of the Express's variator just a standard pully, or do they both change sizes? If this is the case I'd assume some fiddling could be done to the other end to compensate.

Yes, this will be mostly used around the city. That's why I'm hoping to find something that will give me a slight top end boost without giving up acceleration.

This will also be done along with experements with slight engine port modification, fiddling with the ignition system, carb adjustments, low restriction air filters, etc etc etc.
