TheMopedWhiz will surely be along soon with some good pointers and some specific fixes. I also had that problem when I first started working on mine. I found out that I never cleaned out the carb well enough. There is one tiny jet that is about the diameter of one or two strands of speaker wire. I used the wire to poke out the junk along with carb cleaner and then installed an in-line fuel filter. The fuel filter has fixed all my problems since the gas tank was a little rusty.
