nc 50 Brakes

by (no login)

Its time to replace the brakes. I have removed the muffler and the castle nut, but everything appears to be tight after being soaked with wd40. The wheel will not come off of the spindle. Does this just require a bit more muscle or is there a trick that I haven't seen yet?????????????

Express Sr NX50

by (no login)

I have a 81 that has a rusty pully on the back that is eating my belts. I got another assmbly, the whole back pc with the clutch and all. I got it off ebay and they said it was from a 81-82 bike of the same. Well when I got it, the damn bearings in it that the drive shaft goes thru, the bearing openings are smaller. I was able to swap one bearing out but the other does not look so promising.
I assume this part from Ebay was off an 82. Anyone familiar with these?????

sachs wiring diagram

by (no login)

I have a top tank moped that looks just like a lazer with a sachs engine on it. It has a large A on the gas tank and says ams on the back of the seat. It has been sitting for a number of years inside. The original owner messed with the wiring in the headlight bucket and down by the engine(3 wires coming from engine. I am not sure what goes where. It does not have any spark.I bought a new battery for it and installed that. Where can I get a wiring diagram (color code)for this type of bike. I have a lazer parts bike and looked at the wiring. It's similar but not the same. Any help would be great. Overall the bike is in fantastic condition (except for not runnning of course).
Thanks Bill

Is it a TRUE MO-PED,Bill?

by (Login don-ohio)
Moped Gurus

I mean,it has pedals? If so, you might find some info. and a pic of it on the www.mopedarmy.com web site in the photo section, or www.moped2.org in their photo section.

Coming from the magneto, you generally have a wire to the ignition coil and it splits to go to the on/off or `kill switch'. Another wire supplies the lights, and charges the battery thru a rectifier. You can see a Sachs wiring diagram,I think, at www.mopedriders.com by clicking `moped repair' and looking for the Sachs manual. don-ohio (:^D

Honda express light problems.

by (no login)

I have a 1981 honda express s-rquestion. Recently i was tightening my brakes, and when i finished i noticed that my brake light was always on (once i turned they scooter on). Before i tightened the brake the rear light only went on when i braked. Then one day, all the lights just went out, except for the turn signals. I do not have any rear nor headlihgts. Does anyone know how to make it work properly?

Probably overtightened them.

by (Login don-ohio)
Moped Gurus

On a lot of bikes,if you overtighten the brakes, the lever won't close against the brake light switch fully when you let off the brakes.

As far as the loss of lighting goes, there is probably a master fuse near the battery. You must have a battery on most Expresses or the headlight burns out. don-ohio

Haveing trouble with my honda 1977 honda nc50

by MadHatter (no login)

well i have a stock 1977 green honda express. i was told that the green is colectible or sumpton. well im haveing problems running it. it has no air box. i would like to buy one of this site. so if anyone is selling one let me know i also neew a head light and a headlight bucket. but i have no power. i think it becues of the missing air box but when i put my fingers over the carb while running for a couple seconds it al of a sudden gets a burst of power. i also have a esternal fuel pump. and i think it may be restriciting gas flow. i have alredy cleaned the carb. maby another carb cleaning is in order? is it the missing air filter? or is it the external fuel filter. or do you think it is a combination of the both?

Probably the missing filter.

by (Login don-ohio)
Moped Gurus

What do you mean it has an external fuel pump? It SHOULD just have an oil injection pump. The GASOLINE is just gravity fed from the petcock valve at the tank. Make sure the fuel is flowing to the carb, and the gas cap is set on vent also.
Yeah, those carbs are hard to clean.....look for ALL passages and make sure they're clear. There's one that's hard to see kinda toward the edge of the underneath of the carb after you remove the float bowl.Take a very fine piece of copper wire and gently poke it thru the passages.Follow up by blowing the holes out with carb cleaner and compressed air, while wearing eye protection,of course. don-ohio (:^)

77 Sachs Foxi no start

by 77 Foxi (no login)

I recently got a '77 Sachs Foxi that had been sitting for a while. I clean the fuel tank, carburator, plug, etc. I can get it to occasionally fire, but it won't run for more than a few feet. It seems like it's starving for fuel. Any clues?

A better place than this Honda Express forum to get info. on your Sachs would be www.mopedriders.com or www.mopedarmy.com

Have you cleaned and gapped the points to .015" (inches, not millimeters)?

Make sure the fuel is flowing to and THRU the carb. You check this by loosening and lowering the float bowl while the petcock valve on the tank is open.OR if the float bowl of the carb has a drain screw, you can check by loosening or removing that screw.

You can do specific searches on this site or the others I mentioned for Sachs,Foxi, or Sparta. Hope this helps? don-ohio (:^D

Honda SH50 City Express steering lock jammed.

by (no login)

Hi, i went to go out this morning and the steering lock has jammed up. The key won't push in to unlock it. If I turn it to the center position it will push in then, but won't unlock. I can also turn it to on and start the engine with the steering still locked. Is this an easy fix or does it need a new barrel? Also how do I remove the barrel to check out what's happened?
Thanks.

A little bigger tire?

by (Login don-ohio)

If the tire diameter is increased by a little, the top speed usually increases a little. But you can mill the head down .025"(inches,not millimeters) and increase the compression. don-ohio (:^D

Hi There
Replace the drivetrain with the Yamaha Towny Drivetrain and carb - 2-Speeds and tops out at over 45 unmodified Tweaking the manifold , exhaust etc can get you about 10mph more but at the expense of reliability. Also the 80cc dirtbike stuff bolts on .
