what was the difference between the NA and NC? Is the NC a twist throttle like the NA? Are the throttle cables interchangable? I need a 79 NA throttle cable and dealers say honda stopped making it, can someone help?

Just wondering what other hondas share the NC50e engine. I think the Camino is the same judging by the compatability of the engine parts - can someone please confirm.
Thanks, Chris in Australia

The transmission has a centrifugal clutch, and you need to make sure that the clutch isn't grabbing as it is idling.
Then too,the idle has to be set high enough to keep it from dying when the tire stops and the tranny has a little drag.Replace the spark plug.
Make sure the airbox is in place. For more info. on these bikes, I'd go to the www.mopedriders.com and post there. This forum is running pretty slow right now. don-ohio

I was riding the other day and all of a sudden gas was pouring out of the overflow. Every time I stopped it poured out. The moped was running real bad. When I got home I pulled of the carb and cleaned it. After cleaning I started to put it back together and noticed gas inside the float (about half full). This was very puzzling to me I look at it but did not see a hole in it. After using a magnifying glass I saw gas evaporating out of the float a small place that looks like it might have been part of the molding when the carb float was made. Of course the float was now a sinker and allowing gas to flow freely through the carb. I am wondering if this can be repaired with model airplane glue or super glue.
I have also notice lastly that there is a vibration when taking off. What might cause the moped to vibrate? By the way I enjoy riding this Honda express I ride it every day that I can. Before this I was getting about 25-27 mph.
On another note I had an extra muffler and had a friend cut it in half and clean it out for faster speed. As soon as I replaced it with the old on the ped ran real bad missing spitting and sputtering. What might be the problem?
Thanks for your help
Buddy

A good epoxy might last quite a while on the float, but I'd be looking for another one.Search westerh hills honda of Cincinnati,OH for the float or maybe partsfish.com or www.vtcycles.com in Hawaii.
Now....the vibration.....is the wheel loose? Motor loose? Magneto loose? i dunno.....but I'd have a friend watch me take off and then I'd watch him/her take off on it.
The exhaust you are putting back on isn't clogged? don-ohio

I have a '84 Honda Gyro 'Up' and just discovered the piston is cracked - can anyone tell me if I need a specific piston for this bike/engine or did Honda use the same one for other bikes in the range? I'm having a hard time finding a replacement.
Many thanks

Have you done a search on this site and others? Here's a place to go to ask......: www.mopedriders.com
Go to the forum and ask. They might tell you to ask it on the scooter part of the site(a part of the organization I don't frequent), so that would be the forum to ask on,if they do.
But wherever you ask, you will get an answer on that site. don-ohio

HAVE A 1978 NC50 EXPRESS. GOT IT RUNNING GOOD BUT WHEN IT'S REVED UP THE LIGHTING COIL IS PUTTING OUT MORE THAN 12V AND IT BLOWS THE HEADLIGHT BULB. ANY IDEAS?
Posted on Jan 5, 2007, 1:11 PM from IP address 74.33.116.130
It sounds like you might not have a battery installed? The battery is the acceptor of extra voltage during spikes at higher rpms and will keep the headlight from blowing.
If you have a battery installed, make sure the connections are clean and tight. don-ohio

well all was doing good until i changed the air filter. trying to keep it all origanal i put on a new origanal air filter. and now it will only run about 20mph and my plug keeps fouling out and the ped backfires after it warms up and is ran about 5 miles. before it ran very well at 25-27 mph but the filter was an cut foam ac filter. that i had to shime oprn the air box to allow more air flow. this ped has only 1000 miles on it. i tryed ajusting the carb with no luck. it seems like air restriction but im not sure if it is what am i to do?
Posted on Jan 2, 2007, 5:40 AM from IP address 24.155.221.75
........with an opened airbox, right? Then open this one up some and do a plug chop. You might have to go with less dense foam.......mainly make sure that whatever you do,you check it by looking at the plug to make sure you're not running too lean(too much air). don-ohio

Merry Christmas all, I'm looking for the cover to an airbox for my 1978 Honda Express. It's listed as part number 1 on this site in the carburetor diagram. It's on the left side of the bike. Can anyone help? I'll pay top dollar for a clean example.

I'm just finishing up a rebuild on a 1978 express and am also looking for an air box & the cover that goes over the oilpump/fuel line area, colour yellow top choice followed by whatever. the Honda store listed on this site has been very helpful.

I've read everything I can find on the web about how to get an old express running. I have a 1980 Express in excellent condition. It appears to have always been stored indoors so it doesn't have much corrosion or weathering. I've tried everything I can find to get it running: cleaned carb, checked compression, checked spark, checked points, checked fuel flow. Everything seems to be in good working order, but I can't get it to start. Any suggestions. Also, would I have any luck finding a shop that knows anything about these?
Posted on Dec 24, 2006, 8:19 AM from IP address 4.191.219.153
Shouldn't be too hard to get it going.
Usually non-starting is 2 things:The points aren't contacting WELL, or the magneto is rusty, needing cleaned up.
But if you have a spark, it should fire.
So number 2 would be fuel supply into the combustion chamber. The engine has to suck it in there,so a blown crankseal or vacuum leak would be suspected if fuel is getting into the carb.
Is the spark plug getting wet? It will if you choke it and try to start it and it doesn't start.
Does it fire if you dribble a little gas into the spark plug hole? If it does, you have a fuel delivery problem. don-ohio (:^)

I pulled the plug. It is getting wet. I put some gas in the plug hole, and it still didn't start. At times, it acts like it wants to but never does. I am getting a pretty good fuel leak at the carb. It's coming out the tube at the bottom of the frame but is also leaking at the carb itself. I haven't determined the source of the leak at the carb. When I first started working on this, I pulled the carb completely apart, cleaned it, blew all the passages out with an air hose so I assume that it is clean.

........out of the carb. If it is,the float is probably sticking in the down position,or the needle valve isn't good or needle seat is corroded or dirty.
Inspect float to make sure it DOES float and isn't full of gas. don-ohio (:^D

I just inspected the float. The float is not gas logged. The needle and seat are in good condition and clean and move freely. I've since dried the plug, cleaned and rechecked the points. Still no luck. I've tried throttle open, closed, halfway. I've tried 2 different recommended settings on the air mixture.

Did you put in FRESH fuel? I have seen people try to start a `ped with old fuel with no results, but I am assuming you completely flushed and refilled the fuel?
If the spark arrives at the proper time, and there is an air/fuel mix, it should at LEAST fire.
If it's sucking fuel into the engine, it is not a crank seal.
I forgot whether you said you had cleaned out the muffler and exhaust port or not?
Keep trying, and be gentle with the wind-up starter on it as you do. Let us know how you get along? I hope you get her going.
If possible, since you have spark, check the timing of the spark, and make sure it's ocurring about 20 degrees or so BEFORE piston is at top-dead center. don-ohio (:^D

the moped is slow at take off. why? i have to get on the throdle and hold the bike to raise the rpms before i take off or it is slow. it speeds up ok after take off.
also, what do you think about drilling holes at the backside of the muffler?
Posted on Dec 21, 2006, 6:38 AM from IP address 24.155.221.75
www.vtcycles use to have bore kits that fit.
Don't drill the muffler, just make sure it and the exhaust port where it bolts up are clean of deposits. don-ohio

Yeah,50:1 is a little lean but will work.40:1 is a lot safer.
I have heard of these, but don't know what they are exactly. They don't have oil-injection?
If it smokes a lot and is getting the proper amount of oil, it might be a flooding carb, but it would run rough.
Make sure to use good quality oil meant for mopeds or motorcycles. don-ohio (:^D
