I have an 81 Honda Express SC that sometimes just won't go over 15 mph. and sometimes will go over 20 mph ( used at the race track for pit transportation ).
I have checked the exhaust port and is not plugged up. Wile i had the muffler off i did notice that something is loose inside it, large clunk inside like the complete inside is loose.
If i run it with the air cleaner lid off it runs a lot better. Thought the air filter was probubly plugged , but if i put the air cleaner lid back on without the filter element in, it still runs like crap.
Any ideas from the experts ?
Thanks
Bud

I was wondering how important a baterry for the honda express is. I was told that all it does is run the head light when the moped isnt running, but im not to sure how much i believe that. Any insight on the situation?

You can mill the head for higher compression, install a better exhaust(performance type). Mainly,do a search on this site and you'll find a lot of info. Hit `cached' when you get the result you want to check out. don-ohio

I have a 1979 Honda ExpressII. There is a hole between the oil and gas compartments inside the gas tank. I don't believe this can be repaired. I saw in the forum that it is possible to mix a 50 to 1 oil gas mixture and just pour it into the tank. Will this work? The oil injection sysem won't affect the mixture or will it have to be disabled? I can't find a gas tank and I am about to put another piston, rings, and a cylinder barrel on my moped because these parts were destroyed when the leak occured and we didn't know about that until it was to late. I just don't want to hurt the new parts I am about to install. I don't mind mixing the oil and gas mixture and use the old gas tank if that will work. Can you tell me if I will have any problems trying to do this?
Thank-you Ron Oja

Greetings. I have been looking for a replacement gasket for the side cover on a 78 honda express NC50 engine. I was able to find the athena gasket set but it does not seem to include the crankcase gasket. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I would rather not make my own gasket but if thats the only option I suppose I could suffer through it!
Thanks in advance,
Scott

1710 Original Miles, One owner, Comes with original owners manual. My Grandfather bought it brand new from the Honda Dealer and has kept up on the maintenance, but now that he is getting older it is harder for him to ride it as well as the upkeep of it. It had been running up until within this year and he is not sure if it has a wiring problem at this time. We are looking to sell it and hopefully to someone who will appreciate and enjoys the antique scooters as much as he does. We are located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

I recently got a 1980 NC50 as a project bike. One of the things wrong with it is that the starter spring won't release (turn the engine). I'm not sure whether the spring is broken or whether it's wound up tight and won't release. I'm a little afraid to open the tranny with visions of the spring suddenly releasing and spraying parts around my garage. Does anyone have any advice?
thanks,
- Mark

I am hoping someone out there can help me with my problem, i have no spark on my nc50, the carb works great and delivers fuel, but i have no spark. I tested the ignition coil with a multimeter and i have continuity across the coil windings. but when i hold the spark plug to the head and release the spring starter i have no spark, if someone could please help me with any kind of advice i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanx, Gary

After months of labour & E-Bay auctions, and waiting for parts orders I finally got to ride my Express!! Today I clocked 40Km (25 miles) and was totally thrilled with the ride.
I want to thank the forum moderators, all those who contributed to my success here at "Expressly Mopeds" for all their help..
Tomorrow is another "Express" day (If the rain holds out)..

My 1980 Honda Express NC50 has been in storage for 23 years and now I'm trying to get them started again. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb, cleaned gas tank, new battery, new plug........but I'm not getting any life out of it. My compression tester says 125 psi after 3 cranks, so amazingly, I don't think the rings are seized. I got spark and fuel in the float bowl.
So, the million dollar question is: Why won't this thing start?? The carb was taken apart 23 years ago, so I'm not 100% sure it's correct, but everything went together real well.
Oh, is there a clip on the end of the float valve? One picture in the book shows it, but none of the others do.
What else should I check? The bikes were working when they were put into storage.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard
