GTHL FINAL STANDINGS 2005-2006

April 23 2005, 7:08 PM

GTHL FINAL STANDINGS 2005-2006

1.Vaughan Kings - Scott Kerr will lead Kings to Carnation Cup.
2.Junior Canadiens - still have enough talent to contend.
3.Marlies - how Hoyle and Trivino play will determine team's success
4.Flyers - addition of Villa moves them up the ladder.
5.Rebels - Cathcart's new recruits will surprise everyone.
6.Islanders - Hutchinson factor moves them up in standings.
7.Red Wings - Curcio will get the most out of his charges.
8.Nats - Bear,Zdrillich, Balbino and Varone spell a playoff first for Jarman.
9.Ice Puppies - too many problem parents from Woodbridge doom team for certain failure.
10.Sens - improved but not enough.
11.Wexford - better than last season.
12.Rangers - will become league's doormat.

Kings will win league crown over the Canadiens. These two teams will advance to Ohl Cup Championship along with Marlies and Flyers. Kings because of the Kerr factor will win Ohl Cup against the Markham Waxers.

Loose Pucks ... Final standings could change here and there depending on final team placement of various players... Balbino and Varone saga will drag out over the summer. Both parents want their boys with the Kings, but it just won't happen ...Look for the JC #1 & 2 scorers to lead the Nats out of the wilderness ... Carr, Rumley, Zoffaneri goaltending trio presents a major decision for Kings and soon ... Carr is most likely to be the odd man out ... Mercer has kept a spot on his roster open for him with the Flyers.

With Villa in Flyers line-up team will now challenge Kings for Carnation Cup. Bob Mackenzie has them rated far too low. Mercer is building a winner!

Sorry to stop the cup from coming to Don Mills but Villa is not a Flyer, upper post has it correct, there must be something of equal value going the other way and it just hasn't happened so until it does, he's a rebel

Why would Moon not play for Wellington where he will get tons of ice and be seen more?

"Why would Moon not play for Wellington where he will get tons of ice and be seen more?"

What is it with you people?? Seen more in Jr.A.???? Why do you think the OHL changed its draft to a straight 16-year old draft so they could scout players playing (a lot more) against players their own age.

If playing Jr.A. does one thing for a 15-year old is that it proves 9 times out of 10 a player ISN'T capable of playing Junior.

Scouts are more interested in seeing you in Minor Midget than Jr. - that's why they changed the draft!

Bob's Original Prediction

April 27 2005, 8:26 AM

It needs to pointed out to the original poster (some guy named Bob MacKenzie or something) that the qualifiers for the OHL cup always include the playoff winner and finalists from the various AAA leagues in Ontario as well as some other invitees. You can check their web site for the exact wording.
That means that his predictions are not very accurate.

Re: Bob's Original Prediction

April 27 2005, 11:56 PM

The OHL usually has seeds in the following format:

GTHL - top four teams (semifinalists, etc)

OMHA - ETA Champion, SCTA Champion, ETA Finalist, SCTA Finalist

MHAO - top 2-3 teams

NOHA - didn't enter a team in '05 - usually an all-star team from league of Minor Midgets playing in a Major Midget League - may do so again next year - Don Shepherdson of New Liskeard usually puts this team together but the league took a pass this year

TBAHA - Thunder Bay Kings

ODMHA - usually top 2 teams

MWEHL - usually top 2- 3 teams from US

Champions from each league are automatic berths, after that its a crap shoot.

If I had my predictions it would be the following for next year's 2006 OHL Cup:

GTHL: Canadians, Kings, ????, ????
OMHA: Markham Waxers, Halton Hurricanes, Quinte Red Devils
MHAO: London Jr. Knights, Elgin-Middlesex, Brantford
ODMHA: Ottawa Valley Titans, Rideau-St. Lawrence
NOHA: 1990 All-Stars from Great North Midget League
MWEHL: Compuware, Caesars
TBAHA: Thunder Bay Kings

Wildcard berths are usually 2nd best teams with the better prospects.
