TOP TEN THINGS TO EXPECT AT THE RINKS NEXT YEAR…

1. Much quieter audiences at the rinks as most (if not all) of the parents finally realize the value in keeping their mouths shut at a game. After all, the “buyers” are now at the rinks and the “sellers” shan’t devalue their “merchandise” for the “auction” (Get my drift??)

2. All of a sudden more people “care” about 1990 AAA hockey than what this website reveals – but, oddly enough – the following year those people who “care” are gone again - as are the parents who also mysteriously stop going to Midget games after their kid wasn't drafted.

3. That the most successful team will not be measured by “who gets a trophy” at a tournament at the end – rather by how much a coach can gradually improve his players and his team on a month-to-month basis.

4. There is much more to hockey than wins and points and trophies because the scouts rarely pay attention to the score or stats - just the schedule.

5. That the kids that we laughed at as "AA" players over the years are all of a suddenly drafted higher than my kid when I spent $25,000.00 more on hockey than "that AA parent did"!

6. The most successful coaching staffs will be the ones who keep the “ratings BS” out of the dressing room at mid-season – when all of a sudden 2 or 3 kids have a “future” in the game and the other 14-15 have been “told otherwise”. Those who can keep a dressing room together the longest will be the most successful.

7. That all of a sudden guys who look like car salesmen who’ve never seen your kid play before – mysteriously appear at a 1990 game, know your name, give you a card and tell you everything you want to hear for a 5% piece of your kid's "action".

8. That some parents who “secure the services of an agent” PRIOR TO draft year actually find out later that it did absolutely nothing to help their kid’s development – it actually hindered it – because later he finds out that teams “steered away” from their kid due to who his agent was.

9. That people suddenly realize that an agent wasn’t required for the OHL draft to “help us with my boys education package” when he has a 52% average in Grade 12 – (Oh, but the pictures of the NHL’ers he represents on the walls of our agent’s offices looked awfully cool!)

10. Some parents will gradually realize that choosing to be on a team that hasn't lost a game since Novice actually did little for my kid’s overall development – but God, his trophy case looks really impressive!

Far 2 Late...

Good list except that in point # 1, those parents (you know who they are), have already made their bed and will lie in it forever. 1 year of "keeping their mouth shut" is NOT enough. The point here is the "DAMAGE IS DONE" !!!!!!!!!!

This is clearly put together by a parent who has been through it before. The only thing I will say is let the kids have fun, scouts are out watching but every mistake is not under a microscope, and even the NHLers still make mistakes. Oh, and a lot of scouts do their homework and character does matter. Oh yeah, here is another tip: impress your teachers, because you'd be surprised how many scouts talk to teachers at schools to find outmore about the kid's attitude.

It's very clear what one can expect for next year. There are four teams, Canadians, Kings, Ice Dogs and Marlies that will send the majority of their players to bigger and better things. All the players on the rest of the teams may as well pack it now and save your 5 G because the scouts will not be spending time watching the watered down middle to low end GTHL AAA teams. I wish you all the best but this is the reality.

Clearly you are scared that your kid is a bit player on one of the top teams. There are no teams in the 90 age group (GTHL or otherwise) like the 1989 Marlies and 1989 Senators were, 13 and 14 kids drafted respectively. I get the feeling you are the kind of parent who will go nuts when you find out at Christmas time that your son is not on the OHL draftlist, and some kid from the North York Rangers is.

Very true. Not one team other than maybe the Canadiens and Waxers will have over 8 or 9 players picked. Everywhere else will be pretty equal. I see the GTHL shaping down to something like this.
JR. Canadiens- 9 players drafted
Kings- 6 players drafted
Ice Dogs- 7 players drafted
Marlies- 6 players drafted
DMF- 6 players drafted
Islanders- 4 players
Nats- 3 players
Red Wings- 5 players
Rebels- 4 players
Rangers - 3 players
Senators- 2 players
Wexford- 1 player

Total players drafted from GTHL = 56 players, which is around the average.

Using that logic after the dozen or so GTHL players drafted in the 1st 3 rounds all the rest of the guys drafted in the later rounds might as well pack it in also because they'll be in the same boat as the kids undrafted in 2006. The only difference is they'll have a baseball cap & less freedom. That's the real reality.

i dont think that the rebels, islanders, nats, ice dogs will have that many players drafted

JRC- 9
Kings-5-7
ice dogs-4,5
Marlies-4,5
DMF-5
islanders-2,3
nats-2
red wings- 3,4
rebels- 1,2
Rangers- 3,4
senators-3,4
Wexford- 1

i think that these predictions will be alot more accurate then the other

Expect the Raiders to make the playoffs;this new young
coach seems to have the right approach and quite the
knowledge of the game.

The rangers, senators and raiders will never have 6 or 7 players drafted. If they have even 1 player drafted it would be a miracle. As for the raiders making the playoffs..please,,, you have to win at least 8 games to come close and they will be lucky to win 3 and more than likey will win none.

Interesting post from last summer!

This is from the back pages of this site from last summer - its interesting to see what actually happened this past season in Minor Midget.

Well I'd say the predictions regarding the Red Wings were certainly wrong. I guess Pat Curcio fooled the prognosticators.
