HPO Mid-Season Draft List
Well it’s about that time of the year for us to put together our midseason rankings. These
are by no means unchangeable but they should give you an accurate view of some of the
top prospects are for the 1990 birth year. When observing the list look at it objectively
and realize that everyone has different views, however we feel these rankings are very
accurate. We have been to over 150 minor midget/ major midget games this year.

I think many of the kids will go higher than HPO has them projected. I am interested to hear how they build this list. Do they talk with scouts? or look at the draft list? or do they actually watch games and build their own lsit???

Re: top 200 out on hpo

February 9 2006, 1:15 PM

We put our rankings together through talking to various OHL club scouts and watching many tournaments and games. Our staff is small so I have to watch pretty much 85 percent of the games. I've seen alot this year. # 10 off the Kings almost cracked the list at the start of the year he was playing great when I saw him. The games I saw him in the marlies tourney weren't as promising -- he could still crack the final rankings in april.

as for the GNMHL It's hard for us to see those games, however we when they come to tournaments we see them. Also, when we talk to scouts we get a pretty good idea of who they like up there and what not.

I agree with top 10 names for most part. not easy to scout this age group as talent is thick. However, you did miss the boat on #10 Kings. He was the talk of the semi and finals of marlie tourney. Don't like the kings but the kid plays big. his name comes up quite often in the scouting arena.

Re: top 200 out on hpo

February 9 2006, 9:14 PM

This list is nothing more than a joke. Just look at the Marlies on the list. They have morgan at 72, Jared at 80 ahead of Sertic at 157. One of them has got to the point he does nothing but takes penalties and the other is well good for nothing. Sertic has been the cornerstone of not only the Marlie D but the Marlie team and should by far be the highest ranked Marlie D. Perhaps, an argument could be made that would rank Salituro ahead of Sertic but that would be about it.

22 Stefan Salituro Toronto Marlies C 5"10 172
56 Matt Hoyle Toronto Marlies G 6"2 185
70 Cory Trivino Toronto Marlies C 6"1 155

72 Emile Morgan Toronto Marlies D 5"10 180

80 Jared Seymour Toronto Marlies D 6"4 200
134 Tyler Allen Toronto Marlies LW 6"1 176

157 Robyn Sertic Toronto Marlies D 5"11 155

I say we expand the list to 800 kids, that way everyone can feel good about themselves, and maybe this god awful self promotion will stop.

All lists that aren't the OHL central scouting draft list are just speculative.... however, they give you a good account of who will go in the draft or who the scouts on that particular site think are good....

Everyone being critical why don't you spend hundreds of hours at hockey rinks on your own time, not getting paid and make your top 200.

Or wait, you'd probably just copy someone elses.

This list whether you like it or not is what it is. Like it or not thats your choice.

the real list

February 10 2006, 11:10 PM

The paid lists are interesting, The Central scouting lits get you in the door, but the lists that matter are team lists. Teams get rid of the kids that won't report, kids going NCAA, kids with questionable attitudes and come up with their favoured ones in the order that makes sense for their teams. Everybody has about the same 20 kids in the first round, but if they need a D man, they pick a d man even if they might be slightly lesser athletes than available forwards or goalies. Last year everyone of the first 10 picks was prearranged, and the only glitch was the late addition of Tavares to the mix. GM's will actively encourage good prospects to claim NCAA, or 17 year old interest, all part of the game where they try and get the kid who fits their plans best.

There are two different things sent out. Teams send out letters to players that they may select. Players may receive letters from various team.

The league OHL sends out a kit to players on the list that may be drafted. It outlines league issues etc.

Re: top 200 out on hpo

March 12 2006, 5:06 PM

I was wondering the same thing. When asked about my son's height and weight I forgot to LIE!!! I've observed him standing talking with 6'(plus) 200lb players who seems shorter and smaller than my son's apparently diminutive 5'10.5" 185lb actual size (which by the way are listed on his team sheet as SMALLER than actual - asked it to be corrected but it never happened). I also note rolls of FAT on many players. So I wonder what the point of being 200lbs is? Perhaps 185lbs 8% body-fat is better than 200lbs at 23.5%??

Seems to me if you can't be trusted to draw a line on the wall and accurately measure a distance, then you can't be trusted for much. I mean really . . . reading a weight from a scale and writing down a number is not rocket science . . .just a thought . . .

myles micallef biggest defencemen for tghe young nats

ian fargrieve is the team for niagara falls aaa minor midget

Yes, each team is permitted to add 5 players later in the process that brings the list to 400. YOU MUST BE ON THE LIST TO BE SELECTED. 300 are selected. Simply being on the list does not mean you will be selected.

This lists is pretty good but as for the goaltending it could be alittle off this year was a strong year for the goalies and there are 14 goalies that this list includes. Last year as a very weak year as far as goalies are concetned and there were 18 taken in the top 10 rounds.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HPO Top 10 from the ODMHA

1. Thomas Nesbitt C Ottawa Valley Titans 5"11 175

Thomas is a highly skilled forward who can always play a solid two way game. It seems like he's a step above most of the guys in this league. His ability to turn people inside out and finish scoring opportunities has placed him among the elite at this age group in Ontario. One part of Thomas' game that I enjoy is that he isn't afraid to throw the body when it's needed. Against the Jr. Canadiens at the marlies tournament you could tell he really wanted to win and was willing to sacrifice getting hit in order to make the play. I think Thomas will be a pretty high draft pick come May and he will be a very solid OHL player.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Tim Billingsley D Cumberland Barons 6"1.5 170

Tim is a very good skating d-man who can control a game from the back end. His first few strides allow him to make offensive plays that others cannot make. His positioning in his own zone is strong and although he is not the most physical d-man out there he doesn't shy away from the corners. In a game against Burlington this year Tim really showed his talent against a top tier club as he made several nice passes and strong defensive plays. I think Tim will turn into an excellent 2-3 dman in the OHL and if he can train and fill out a little more he might find himself playing professional hockey in a few seasons.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. Brent Sullivan D Ottawa Valley Titans 6"1 180

Brent is a smooth skating d-man who displays great vision. Brent is at his best when he's playing physical and letting go his nice low shot from the point. He possesses a very good first pass and knows when to jump up into the rush. Brent's development has really taken off in the last two years and he's filling out to become a strong physical presence to accompany his great offensive skills. Brent does need to work on his positioning a little bit but that will come with time and the right coaching.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4. Chris Carrozzi G Nepean Raiders 6"2 170

Chris is a physically imposing goaltender who loves to play in big games. His combination of size and talent has shot him near the top of the list for OHL eligible goaltenders. Playing on a strong Nepean club Chris has shown that he can stay focused and still make big saves even if his club is usually in the other teams end. I really think Chris will develop into an OHL starter. A year of Jr. A will help Chris and will give him the right stage to get some experience and make the most of his talent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Stephen Farrell F/D Nepean Raiders 6"2 175

Stephen is an interesting prospect in our eyes. He is big, mobile and takes the body quite often. I think he has a future at the next level there is a catch though, will he play forward or defense? He reminds me of Kingstons Eric Lanciault last season as he can either be a top checking forward with some offensive punch or a top rate defenseman. This season I have seen him play a lot of defense and he has played excellent every time he steps on the ice.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Aaron MacCosham C Rideau-St Lawrence Kings 6"1 185

Aaron is a big centerman who knows how to rack up points. He uses his size to his advantage and is one of the leaders on a very good Kings team. He among others has really picked his play up in the playoffs and are making a run to the OHL cup. Aaron is a very smart player hockey player with awesome hands I think his draft stock is rising daily and he could find himself in the rounds 3-6 range on draft day. Aaron excels when he has the puck and has great playmaking skills. I think he will have a very good year next year in Jr. A if he decides to play there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7. Matt MacDougall D Ottawa Valley Titans 6"3 185

Physically imposing d-man with a great sense of positioning in his own end. plays his gaps really well and has a big shot from the point. Matt could end up being a first or second round pick in this years draft. He's got all the tools and seems to be developing very well. Not the most offensively gifted player but still can get on the score sheet. Looks like his future will be a bright one and we will be watching him at the next level for years to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8. Shawn Lalonde C/D Cumberland Barons 6"0 160

Shawn is an all-around solid player who is an excellent skater. He has good acceleration and has awesome puck skills. He found himself playing a lot of forward this year and given his size this might be the best choice if he wants to continue on in hockey. It's incredible how strong he is in the offensive zone despite playing a lot of D in his life. If I were Shawn I'd keep working at the forward position because we think that's the position that best suites his skills. He is a wildcard in the draft this year but any team who takes him is getting a player with a lot of offensive potential.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9. Chris Van Laren D Kingston Predators 6"1.5 160

Chris is a solid d-man with a great knack for the game. He reads the play well and steps up and takes the body quite often in the neutral zone. Despite being rather lanky at this point in his development Chris does play an intense physical game, which really impressed me. I think Chris will fill out and his physical game will really come to form. Offensively Chris knows what to do with the puck in the offensive zone however sometimes his first pass out of the zone could use a little work. He needs to look more and be patient. Chris will be a JR. A player next year in our projection and should become a solid junior hockey player.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10. Patrick Killeen G Ottawa Valley Titans 6"3 180

Patrick is a big goaltender who has showcased his skills at the minor midget level for the last two seasons, as he played up with the 89's last season. He moves fairly well for a big goalie and seems to play a very controlled, positional game between the pipes. Patrick is drawing a lot of OHL attention and for good reason. His OHL cup will be a huge stage for him to prove himself to the scouts.

This what I heard, can anyone confirm it?

Put an up dated list on here. That list (if you want to call it that) is from Feb.8 or earlier. After all of the U-17 camps everything has changed. Just look at the Alliance. Clark and Wellwood made the team that makes their rankings go way up.

HPO is way better than HockeyScouting - stay away from that site it's a joke.
