That is great news. Over the past few years Geoffrey scored many big goals in big games. I am not with the waxers and am very happy to see the hard work pay off.

He's committed to OSU - but does that mean Ohio State has committed to him?

School's can't commit to any player until the end of next year (grade 11). All it appears to be is that he (and others) have done is express their intention to apply to an NCAA school at the end of next year.

That NCAA page that lists the players making committments changes on a MONTHLY basis. Kids are on and off these committment lists all the time.

The constant changes can be for academic reasons (marks weren't good enough), schools didn't reciprocate by offering a package or the player just isn't good enough on the ice after 1-2 years in Jr.A/B hockey.

Its only a posted committment by the player to a school expressing interest - nothing more nothing less.

Schools and players are giving verbal commitments at this point. That is all they can give. It comes in writing when they are going into grade 12 as you mention.

Although written commitments can not be done until after next year these verbal commitments are an unwritten handshake.

The schools will not renege on the commitment unless there are legitimate reasons such as poor marks, under performing, poor behaviour, etc. as you suggested. The schools risk their reputation if they do pull out.

Furthermore, a written commitment does not mean anything either if there are "legitimate" reasons, as noted above, to back out of the deal.

It amazes me that these commitments are coming so early. Some Michigan kids committed last summer too. I think maybe the kids (parents) "feel" they are guaranteed something by committing early. There is no rush & if your game does drop off, guess what, you won't be there very long if at all.

Will this help him move up in the OHL Draft in May ?

Was he going to go in the top 5 rounds before this came out?

Is he too small for the 'O' ???

This would of course drive him way DOWN in the draft as O-teams know he will not go to them to play (or he'll lose his US scholarship potential).
