What was the point of the packages the OHL sent out recently to their potential draftees. Just a couple of magazines? Anyone know why they sent them?

there can only be a total of one hundred players added max, to the list of the original 300. that would make up a list of 400 in total. junior clubs are allowed to add 5 players each to the list. as for the cut off date, not sure, however the day before seems a little tight, considering those on the original 300 had to have their information packages and pictures returned to the OHL office by April.

If can't be the day before, the purpose of the list is to stop teams from hiding kids. All the team deserve a chance to reviewr the list since they can only select players that are on the list.

Scouting at it's best

April 20 2006, 11:53 AM

That's the name of the scouting game . Hide your gems in your back pocket as long as you can and you have a better chance of getting the player you want to get . Anyone can scout the obvious picks without being a scout . This is what good scouting is about and the methods used to get them . How many scouts has sandbagged a player publicly but retain his name on the 5 man list in his back pocket . You will know May 6 /06

Hide your gems. This is 2006. You can't do that these days. No eligable kid that even has a chance to skate in OHL has been missed. Where do you think they have been hiding.

I guess you go with the assumption that kids don't change in skill level year to year.

Then they get drafted as a Midget (major). It is not unheard of.

Sometimes a team is looking for a certain type of player to play a specific role on a team, this may be why some players were left till the end, then added on by those teams. They may not be a 100pt guy or a FINESSE player but they may still have a Quality that interests a team or some teams.

Recognize that there are kids on this that have teammates that are not on the list and the missed player is better, this is a fact. Sure they are not first rounders but the last 5 rounds are interchangeable parts.

You do not know. That is the point.

A kid can be on the list, receive a package & then be taken off the list. Likewise a player could never receive one iota of information from the OHL, be put on the list the day before the draft & get drafted.

The list is DONE. The additions have been made. You can't add players on the last day. This is done so all teams have a chance to look at their notes/call the kid to see his intentions. I'm not sure if all the late additions have received packages, but I'd suspect most have by now.

But not being on the list isn't the end of the world, teams will invite kids to training camps and undrafted players are on every OHL team. Being drafted is a big honour, but not being drafted doesn't close the door on players.

If you are added to the list on the deadline, does that give you a better chance of getting picked due to the fact that you have been added on by a team.

in order to be added to the list, five teams have to name you. it doesn't increase your chances of being picked, it's just one more ball in the lottery.

PS - the world is full of people who got drafted to OHL and never got a sniff of the O, let alone anywhere beyond that

Five teams do not have to name you to the list.

Each time can add up to five players to the list.

This was done a long time ago though. I believe the deadline for teams to add players to the list was April 7th.
