be careful, there is still some discussion that kids who play here will basically be black-balled going elsewhere after that

Because this "league" goes against the recent decision by Hockey Canada to restrict the number of midget age players on Junior rosters. The number will be less next year than it was this year.

It is all about control. Hockey Canada & the OHF feel threatened by this league or any other independent league from forming.

This is the same as any summer league, it is independent & who chooses to play there is none of their business. (but they do want to make that their business as well)

Having said that I wager they invent some kind of rule that will have the sole purpose of punishing anyone leaving to such a league from returning to the OHF (1 year suspension). They would not have a leg to stand on & would lose any battle in the courts, but the ploy is into scaring enough kids or making it too expensive to battle them in courts that the kids would tow the line.

Just for some further information. Hockey Canada has looked into how they could control some of the summer programs. They have even talked about hockey schools, power skating, etc., & talked about them looking into schools being certified as a Hockey Canada seal of approval school.

All about control.

Even when it comes to adult leagues.

We are trying to launch adult rec to compete against entrepreneurial senior leagues

"kids who play here will basically be black-balled going elsewhere after that"..............Where do people think their kids are going? If you're lucky enough to make it to the "O" when you're 16, you"ll most likely be on the 5th line and you may get some icetime if your playing the last place team and you're winning 10-0.Tier II not much more.Even if this league is just glorified midget AAA,
but it's in your town, why wouldn't you consider it? Do you really think any OHL team,Tier II, or University is going to care if you played in this league for a year or two?If you"re good enough they"ll find you.

Nothings wrong with it.

What iss wrong with having options?

How about this new concept. Let the players play where their abilities take them. Whether OHL, OHA, Midget AAA, Midget AA, Bobs Superstar Spring League, or even this new Metro Jr. League.

Choice is not a bad thing.

This league will be charging between 3500 and 5000 per player which makes a big difference when comparing to the OHA.

it should be about choice, but the omha, gtlh, ohf, hockey canada....whoever.... has limited the kids options with import rules/residency rules etc.....it should be about development, but the "higher authorities" have lost sight of that...

If you add it all up, and don't forget to add gas ,how much do you think you paid in AAA? Probably the same if not more.

Choice

April 29 2006, 10:27 PM

Choice may be a good thing, but, playing in an even more watered down environment isn't.

Choice...choice...choice...It should be about development!!

This league is about opportunity...an opportunity for someone to make some money!! The only reason why this league is being started is to make money by calling itself a junior league and grab as many 15 and 16 eyar-olds as possible who otherwise can't play Junior at that age.

Stay in Midget, get some ice time and play junior at 17 or 18. You will develop much more by playing 20 minutes a game in Midget compared to less than 5 at Junior "A", "B", or worse, Junior "C"!!

Oh yea Minor Hockey doesn't make any money off of us.

If you haven't noticed our minor hockey system sucks ass when it comes to development. How many extra hours have people spent AWAY from their team actually working on skill development. Probably 90% of the players development is thanks to the instructors that have NOTHING to do with their actual minor team.

I don't think this new league will be an overnight saviour for hockey. But a little independant competiotion might be good for the game.

There's no "ifs"....... your kid does suck.

In all my son's hockey he has had 1 coach for a 2 year span that actually taught & helped develop the kids skills adequately. Every other year I felt he better go elsewhere for more skill development, which he did.

Strange a bunch of the higher rated kids seemed to be there with us.
