Storm Prospects Show Their Stuff
Date May.13.2006
Storm goaltender Jason Guy started for Team White while prospect Thomas McCollum got the nod for Team Red. Playing 4-on-4 hockey, these two goaltenders would see their fair share of rubber.
The play was scrambled throughout the early minutes of the first of two 40-minute periods. This was not unexpected as many of these players had never met, let alone played alongside each other.
The scoring was opened early with a goal by Stratford Cullitons centre Brandon Buck. He potted his second moments later off of a giveaway in the Red Team zone.
Team White kept the pressure on with a goal by Tyler Carroll. Team Red responded quickly after winning a draw in the White zone. Tyler Melancon appeared to bang home a rebound off of a screened Jason Guy.
After on period, the score was 3-1 for the White Team. Jason Guy was very strong when tested, while counterpart Thomas McCollum was extremely strong in net for Team Red despite giving up 3 goals.
The second period opened with Cody St. Jacques manning the net for Team White, while Cody Rosen took over the goaltending duties for Team Red.
Team White came out flying in the second with goals from Storm first-rounder Anthony Nigro and Kelly Jackson.
Red responded with a goal from Matt Kennedy who rushed to the outside of a White defender before cutting hard to the net and beating St. Jacques to the blocker side.
Drew Doughty took his turn to go end-to-end as he did so many times during the Storm season, and scored after a quick deke to make the score 5-3.
Brandon Buck replied with his 3rd of the game after hammering home a juicy rebound. James Cameron tallied soon after having all day in front of the prone goaltender Rosen.
David Jarick took his turn for Team White. He fired a cannon from the blue line top shelf on a screened Rosen who never saw the shot.
After trading goals, Team White lowered the boom on their competition. Brandon Biggers would score off of a 2-on-1 with Jamie Arneil, followed by nice goals by Denver Manderson and Anthony Nigro.
Jeff Hayes scored after roofing a shot over St. Jacques, but it was too little too late. Team White would score twice more to round out the scoring at 14-5 in their favour.
