No.

Some kids will get by based on skill alone at lower levels, but as they progress through each level of hockey the requirement for hockey smarts only increases.

At the higher levels of hockey the gap of skill level narrows. The difference from average to star will in most cases be decided from their hockey sense & smarts. The ability to learn to take advantage of fewer opportunities that are open for shorter time periods will require a quick read from those always thinking ahead. If you are only reacting as things happen, the opportunity will disappear before you can take advantage.

There may be some hockey smart kids that have never been taught or coached properly that may get smarter with the right coaches. But by & large the true hockey smart kids have been smart all along despite the level of coaching.

I disagree. Unless the kid has permanent brain damage, you can always make a player smarter with good coaching and patience.

If he/she was that stupid, they wouldn't be able to develop the skills to begin with. I believe you morons are talking about experience, players and coaches you play(ed) with in the past. Confidence!

Some players will learn from experiences & teachings & adapt, others will never absorb what they are taught. They may be good robots but they can't think for themselves & adapt. The very few with the gift of real hockey sense or smarts are way ahead, they are always thinking & every play has already been thought out & calculated just prior to it happening. They are projecting the options & the potential outcomes in advance. If you think this ability is taught you just don't understand it.
