Here is an interesting clip about the safety net required for all players when pursuing a hockey career - Jordan Smith is a "1985" from S.S. Marie who played 4 years for the Greyhounds, was a highly touted 2nd round pick of the Anaheim Ducks and in an instant - its all over ON the ice.

Jordan Smith is making a return to hockey.

Smith lost vision in his left eye when he was hit by a deflected puck on February 24th when he was playing for the American Hockey League's Portland Pirates. Smith's injury resulted in the implementation of a new mandatory visor in the AHL this season.

Smith, who was chosen by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, will attend Lakehead University in January and will play for the men's hockey program. He is studying to become a teacher.

''I'm honoured to attend an excellent institution like Lakehead as well as to join a great hockey program,'' said Smith. ''I'm definitely excited and really looking forward to achieving my academic goal of graduating as well as helping the hockey team achieve its goal of a national championship.''

''Any time that our hockey program can recruit a person of Jordan's character, quality, and athletic ability is certainly a positive thing for Lakehead University and the City of Thunder Bay,'' said Lakehead athletic director Tom Warden. ''I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Thunderwolves jersey.''
