Paul is a victim of the circumstances that created an implosion of the Hawks team this year.
People like to blame it all on deposed coach McMann, which is unfair. In fact it was a combo of a number of distracting factors: a few kids on the team that didn't care enough (and tried to dissuade others from playing to their potential), some that had perhaps been there too long, some personality clashes (kids, & coaches) and initial sub-par play on the ice - in goal and out, which resolved fairly well for the team to end up one point out of 6th after being around 11th in November! Some of the kids had already decided to move on in the fall, others wanted to drop down to 'A', others to 'AAA'. When Paul decided to take on this task early in the new year, he knew he'd likely be dealing with an exodus - thus the extra solicitation around the loop, to find players - which may not be a bad thing in the end: fresh blood, new attitudes, new course of action. A spring cleaning was likely what this team needed, as do a number of teams once the locker presence becomes a little stale. Good luck to them next year. |
