There are some players having their way paid for in the GTHL. How do you feel about this and would you go for a player having his or her way paid for on your team? What if the rest of your team was paying this players way?

This type of thing happens at any level of competitive sports, not just hockey. It is one thing if their is really a financial situation with a family. However its another thing if a parent starts making demands like "Sure my kid will play for your team coach BUT if he does he's captain or I want him to play every other shift or better yet well than we're not payin'. Happens more than you would think. Even worse is a coach that goes for it.

How about the free ride some coaches kids get, there is definetly some preferential treatment there for sure. It must be nice knowing your position on the time and ice time are secure, even if not deserving. Regular shift, PP, and PK. Not be bad.

To the person 2 posts above, if a coach is not getting paid whats wrong if
he plays his kid more than others. In my opinion if a coach is not getting paid, his kid should not pay to play. It is not that easy to be a coach,
especially with the parents of today, like you, never happy and always
complaining. If the coach on the team is fair with the other kids and he is
improving the team then that is fine with me. Again this is my personal oppinion. Every parent knows if a coach has a kid on the team, if you do not
like that, go to another team. Instead of complaining just go and get your
own team, see if it is that easy to run a team.

Its not easy to run a team but many coaches do the job because they like it. Those that are getting paid are the ones with the problems. Usually the ones getting paid are in AAA and do not have a child on the team. Problem is whenever someone pays a coach or sponsers a team they expect that little bit extra and that always rubs someone else on the team the wrong way.

I have to disagree with you when you say if someone sponsors a team they expect more or it rubs someone on the team the wrong way. My son has been fortunate enough for the past 2 years to be on a team where there is sponsorship from a few of the parents on the team, I can honestly say that these parents NEVER expected anything more. Also the every player benefitted from their generousity.

Lucky you, now I know you were not on my son's team last season. The people that brought in some sponsorship seemed to be most valued.

Sponserships are great, they allow a team to get that one more hour of ice or that one tournament at the end of the season. It shouldn't rub parents or kids the wrong way.

Once we had a kid who didn't have a lot of money or sponsorships, he was a very good player, we let him pay only the registration fee, and gave him the "C" for away games.
We had rich people on the team that were generous(ie. sponsors from business) and their money covered some shortfalls.
