Big tie breaker game for 1st place, Braves vs Leaside...Wed night. I think its the first time that an extra game has been needed to decide 1st place. Good luck to both teams and congratulations on a great run and season. |

Its amazing as to how you know that.
Anyway who cares who started it, why not comment on the topic, and either agree or give us your opinion...it would be more interesting, and let the Vaughan lady as you have identified.... have her say as well, as very soon the playoff results will start coming in, and we will see who has made the better prediction. |

Just sit back a watch some pretty good playoff hockey. The young men on these teams are all going to be finished with GTHL hockey soon enough so stop being a meddling parent and just be a spectator. These players are old enough to look after themselves! The parents at quite a few of the games I've seen this year have been a complete embarassement. Start setting a positive example. Cheer your team on and drop the rest of the bashing.
Good Luck to all the teams. May the best team win. |

The hockey has been great so far. I don't think anyone is making any "predictions" because it is too close of a division to predict. There are/were a few predictions based on hope not fact. Keep playing hard boys, it has been great to watch. Which ever teams make the final, are going to be worn out from the trip there. |

Vaughan creeps that much closer to the next round. Braves should finish their first round tonight. With the Leaside and Hornets wrapping up by Sunday. So far, 3 out of 4 are going as predicted. Not bad EH ? Come on Huskies, I want to go 4-0. |

Braves lead Semi-final 1 with Leaside taking on Vaughan in Semi-final 2. It's a shame that only one of these teams will go to the OHF's with the host East Enders. |

It happens every time that a GTHL team is the host, and when a team from Northern Ontario takes the 5th spot. It also happened a few years ago when Leaside hosted, as only the champs made it, as again there was a team from the north that wasn't very good. There should be more teams allowed in...end of story, as in the past there have been many very good GTHL teams that didn't go because of the setup...I guess the same can be said about the Silver Stick.
Good luck to the remaining teams, as the one the makes it will be a very tired team as well. |

There should not be any more teams allowed in, end of story. Like the Memorial Cup, this is a "tournament" for only the playoff champion of each league and the host team. Win the playoffs or host. That is the only way to get in. It does not matter how good the teams are that did not make it, fact is they just were not good enough to win at the right time. Hosting if no picnic either. Don't think that EE is getting a free pass, because they are not.
It is why many organizations do not want to host, it is alot of work and a big expense to cover. Host team basically covers all "hockey" costs for all teams involved.
If you want your organization to host next year or the year after, lobby your organization and apply. Don't complain because another organization stepped up for the task. |

I wasn't trying to complain, because like you, I agree that it is no picnic in organizing, and you are further correct, that most organizations don't want to host because of the huge amount of work involved. If you look at the hosts for the GTHL in the past seasons, its only been Leaside, and the Brunis, and now EE, these 2 because of the same person, leading the organizing.
The reason I say let more teams in is that I'm not sure if you have been around when the team from the North has played, well they were simply awful, but because of the structure they had the invite.
The thing with win the playoffs,or win at the right time, is that the road for the GTHL teams and I hope you agree is much more difficult than that of the OMHA and the Northern team and yes no fault of their own. The GTHL as you know plays a longer season, and playoffs. I know you can say too bad, win and you're in, but I hope you agree that some good teams regardless of where they come from are not going to play. Who knows maybe one day the whole setup, might be looked at and changed, and then we might have someone find something wrong with that. If you had the chance to make changes what would you do? |

I don't believe that the OHF's should be changed. It does not matter how good or bad the other leagues are because the next year it may be the the other way around. Should Canada ice a second team in the Olympics because there are other teams in the tournament that are not nearly as good? This is a final championship round between the various leagues of Ontario. Win your league to be ivited. That being said I think that the Silver Stick format should be changed to allow all of the "good" teams the chance to play. Every year teams that should be there are not. There were 6 very good and competitive teams in the GTHL this year yet only 4 were "invited". The Kings and the Huskies were omitted. Both are very good teams that had a real chance of winning the tournament. The silver stick does not have the "prestige" it has had in the past. Put all the best teams on the ice in a quick weekend tournament format and you would see some really good hockey that would mean something.Open it up and beat the best to win it. |

I'm going out to but a lottery ticket as I can say I predicted it here on the forum. (First thread) Of course only the monitor guy can verify my ip address to confirm but the only thing wrong was the Hornets beating the Huskies.
oh well, congrats to the Braves and Vaughan for getting to the OHF's. I read that the Northwest Hockey rep team is not coming to the OHF's, so the GTHL will have 3 teams. The City final teams and the East Enders. The OMHA teams are set with Ajax (of course) and Peterborough.
Good luck to everyone over the next 3 weeks. |

If the Braves keep up the physical end of the game, they should win easily. Rangers can not take the hard hitting. During the EE - Rangers series everytime the EE team began to hit, Ranger players bailed. EE would then carry the play. As soon as they stopped hitting, Rangers were able to use their speed and skill to win. Braves are a big and skilled team that if they play with any kind of physical consistency they should win. |
