Hootens will be vindicated in the end, again

by Hornet Homer

Last year they picked three of the four state champions in their magazine two months before the season began and six months before the title games were played. They only missed Springdale, which lost to their presason No. 3 team FS Southside in the finals.
Yeah, discount Hooten's?!
Nobody discounts Hooten's or there wouldn't be so much talk about them.
Hey, I remember when Bryant was 11-0 and ranked #1 and Hooten's picked us to lose by 14 points to Northside. Everybody in town was fired up and ready to shut Chad up but in the back of my mind I was worried because I thought he might be right.
And the final score was: Northside 14 Bryant 0!!!!
Don't be surprised in the end if the teams with all those losses he has ranked so high aren't playing deep in the playoffs. Hooten's rankings aren't about wins-losses but how good you are.
Also, why doesn't someone make some picks and rankings before Hooten's does? All the other experts come out after looking at their stuff and its obvious.
Go, Hornets! We're picked by Hooten's to beat Parkview by 7 this week. I feel good about it, too.

Even though Pocahontas is undefeated, they have only proved that they can beat subpar competition. They have a good team, but the competition they've beaten has not been very good. Until they beat the likes of Newport, they will be low in the polls/rankings.

I was just wondering if someone could update me on how the Hector Wildcats are doing. I'm a proud Wildcat alumni, but the military has taken me away from my stomping grounds. I know they are still undefeated after a tough win against Danville this past week. I'm just looking for other people's viewpoints on them and any bright and upcoming stars the 'Cats may have.

We expected to be decent this year and the next 2 or 3 years with our junior high teams going undefeated 3 years in a row starting with this years Junior class. We would like to wish all teams the best of luck and everyone deserves to win, u don't put in all those hours of hard work and not deserve to win. Conway is a good football team

by lance

Why is it so hard for people from other towns/cities to accept the fact that conway has a good/winning football program? We've proved ourselves time after time on the field but yet people still choose to bet against us. (on the passing situation)-no coach in his right mind would pass the ball more than ten times in a game if you have two division one running backs that are averaging well over a 150 yards a game it's just dumb. I would understand you ppl's arguments if conway was struggling offensivley but we're not, what we need to be discussing is our struggling defense and the fact that we're giving up so many points. Conway's offense has proved to be unstoppable "and will continue to be throughout the playoffs."

Re: Conway is a good football team

Conway does know how to win. Pretty easy to do when there are maybe only 3 other good teams in your conference. Time and time again people demand for Conway to be respected and to be given their due because they have a good record, yet when the Wampus Cats make it to the playoffs, their lack of playing against good teams comes through. Easy to look like world beaters when you play Hall, Parkview, NLR and Catholic.

I totally agree unfortunately. We usually have the talent, but if you can't play competitive teams, how are you really going to build on that and get up for the big games? Conway deserves respect for having such a great program year in and year out...but, we will never earn any until we can show up and play when the heat is on. It's actually pretty sad this year, b/c we have undoubtedly the best offense in the state but defensively we seem to be going backwards. Seems like such a waste, and is a heartbreaker to fans in the true sense of the word. I hope our defense can step it up about 10 notches between now and November b/c as they say.....Offense wins games, defense wins championships. Go Wampus Cats!

I heard on the news that he initially lost feeling in his arms and legs but that before he left the field he had regained feeling and that the hospital was just precautionary. That he is now fine. I think they had something that was a makeshift ambulance (a converted van or something) on their side of the field that they could have used if they had to. Someone said that if it had been an emergency they would have used that one. Otherwise they wait so that they would still have emergency personnel at the game once that ambulance left.

mcclellan isn't the same team from a year ago they lost their starting 3 backs and most of the defense that was ranked #2 in the state (behind or closely tied with springdale) so i mean they are good but not as good as the team that limped with alot of injuries ranked #4 into conway last year and barely lost 27-25 or the beat up team, from going both ways with everyone and lost by 1 point at fort smith to the state champs (southside) in the fisrt round. and then southside goes on to blow out pine bluff and everyone else. so they are good but not last years team. if last years team had a fiedl goal kicker they could have kicked 1 in conway and at fort smith. not saying they would have won but they might have

Conway wont win championship because....

by Wampus Cat 02-03

Conway will never win because of the head coach. Coach Smith will never open up the offense for any reason if anyone remebers Landon Leach the stand out Conway Junior High quarterback that left to Russelville because of the offensive scheme. As much talent that goes through conway every year there wont be any state rings until Coach smith lets the off. coordinator get full command of play calling.

Camden Fairview deserves the credit FS Southside

by Hoghead

It's been almost 30 years in the making for the Cardinals and they deserve to boast. We all know FS Southside is one of the true Kingpins of Arkansas High School Football. No one ever questioned Southside when 5A West was full of mediocore teams that they dominated. FS Northside would rise to the Ocassion due to the rivalry. But Hoghead remembers when Rogers, Fayetteville, Bentonville and others in that conferance sucked.
FS Southside didn't have to merge 3 High Schools like Camden Fairview. Oh back when it was Camden High, Camden Lincoln and Camden Fairview they had talent spread into 3 different schools. They were all AAA Schools. They haven't won a Conferance Title since 1973 in the old 7AAA. You don't even have a clue what they've been through down in Camden. Waiting and waiting for this merge that threw them head first into 5A Football. People lost thier alma mata's, The old Camden High Panther mascot was also lost. No they're not El Dorado. ( they use to suck too!) But they do have pride. I'm happy for my old 7AAA Conferance foe's. Give them a break, They've been waiting 30 years!!!! Go CFHS Cardinals!!!!!!!!!

HOGHEAD, DON'T GET IT TWISTED, I KNOW FOOTBALL HISTORY, AND EL DORADO HAS A LOT OF HISTORY. ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT I HAVE BEEN READING ALOT OF FEARLESS FRIDAY BOARDS WITH CAMDEN FARVIEW CARDINALS ON THERE DOWNING EL DORADO BECAUSE THEY HAVE GOTTEN OFF TO A SLOW START. CAMDEN MAY BE GOOD NOW, BUT THEY HAVE TO PROVE IT ON THE FIELD, NOT THE BOARDS. AND I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH IN THE PAST. I KNOW ABOUT EL DORADO,AND THEY ARE GOOD PERIOD. WE PLAYED YOU ALL TO TEXARKANA, YOU ALL HAVE ALOT OF TRADITON ALSO. THE REASON SOUTHSIDE CALLED CAMDEN OUT IS BECAUSE, THEY NEED TO STOP TALKIN SMACK TO EL DORADO, AND WAIT TO WEEK TEN. I WISH WE ARE ABLE TO PLAY CAMDEN IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND BELIEVE WE WILL DO OUR TALKIN ON THE FIELD.

The 32 miles that seperate El Dorado and Camden has been like 250 miles in the win lost ratio. Camden may be a little loud. But after 30 years of waiting for a Conferance Title can you blame them? El Dog, Texarkana and Pine Bluff have ran 5A South for years. Now there's a new Dog or should I say Bird on the block. I follow you Southside, talk is cheap! But just think if it were Sheridan? Hooten's is still showing his ignorance

Has anyone looked at his rankings? Uhm..Conway is #6? can we say BS! He has cabot ranked ahead of us and springdale? All i know is we shut out cabot and they've lost more games than we have, but yet they still deserve a top 5 ranking..i don't think so. And springdale? Yeah they might be real good but nobody deserves top 5 rank w/ a 3-3 record after week 7. yeah i know you're gonna say "those teams were really good" well so is central..Once again thanks Hooten for showing your ignorance.

Hooten's

by High School Fan

I think coaches and fans around the stae have really lost a lot of faith in the Hootens crew the last couple of years. They really can't speak out because they love the exposure that their teams gets. I think the whole PA has seven D-1 players got started with them. It is obvious now that they may have one. They sell out to private rich schools and NWA schools to the point that most don't take them serious in the south now. He still preaches about the Warren program and they were good in the past and will be in the future seasons, they are not what they have been. Most coachs and real fans dismiss them now.

How did he sell out to private schools and NWA schools? Most people in the state other than just Chad thoguht that Springdale would be a contendor for the title, and they still are. ALmost everyone in the state thought that PA would win the AAA crown, and they still can. Most people thought Shiloh would be better this season as long as they avoided the injury bug.

Well lets see. Maybe he's taking in consideration that Cabot has improved dramaticly and Conway isnt showing much of anything impressive, and he's probably looking at the past years how conway beats Cabot in the first game, cabot improves, and then beats conway in the playoffs. Thats what I expect to see again this year.

Hooten showing his ignorance

by Janie Hog

Hooten's Arkansas Football ranks all the state's high school teams by classification weekly. Team's rankings are determined more on coaching, ability, performance and tradition than win-loss record.

Hope this helps you to understand how the rankings are determined.

Thank you!

Only in the State of Arkansas would a 3-3 team be in the Top 5

I've lived in Texas, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama and Florida. They wouldn't dare put any 3-3 team in it's Highest Classification in the Top 5 or Top 10. Hooten's makes the State look weak with it's Rankings. I've never paid much to attention to Hooten's. If I'm not mistakened Hootens is out of Morrilton. I rest my case.

Springdale is a dang good team w/ tons and tons of talent, but the simple fact is their record is 3-3...you shouldn't be top 5 w/ a 3-3 record anywhere...they might still be a contender for the title this year..but they don't have the #1 or even #2 seed in the confrence..they don't deserve top 5 period..if you're from springdale you can say whatever you want about how much better you are than teams around ark blah blah blah like you always do but your record speaks for itself..give the top 5 to teams with 0 to 1 loss..not 3..

When you look an d see that their losses are to the #2 and #3 teams in the state, by a combined 8 points I think, and to Jenks, though not the same Jenks as years past, it's easy to see why they are still ranked in the top 5. They should be there because they are still one of the best teams in the state. Just because a team may only have 1 or 2 losses, it's doesn't mean they are better.

Thank you Tony the Tiger. Way to go on the name change. You haven't been here in awhile; has your demanding job as a dermatology physician kept you away? Very mature of you to bring up a topic that has already come and gone. Keep up the inflammatory posting; your mother should be proud.

Hope v. Robinson

by Anonymous

In my opinion, this is Robinson's biggest test this year. Coming to Hope to face the Bobcats in a truly huge AAAA Southwest game. A Bobcat victory would put the Cats back in contention for the conference title, something they were written off of about 2 weeks ago. Robinson deserves so much commending for their character and heart...it takes a lot to overcome something so tragic. I think Hope is starting to get the feeling back that they can win, something they had lost for a while, and when that happens Hope has the talent to be a contender. I believe its going to be a good one...any thoughts?

Hope vs J.T. Robinson, Hammonds Stadium will be full

by Hoghead

With a 14 to 13 win over Malvern Hope is now in position to gain a playoff spot at home. Robinson has been a solid team after the loss of their QB. This will be a showdown in AAAA SW. Hope has 1 conferance loss to Arkadelphia. A win here keeps them right on the Badgers if they should slip up.
Hope has speed and so does Robinson. Coach Johnny Turner will have the Cats ready. Hope 15 Robinson 14.

You people crack me up

by Bryant

Anybody that thinks Hall can win any game is rediculous, it was a wipeout 40-8. After halftime they had to call that rule that said the clock doesn't stop for anything so the game would end quicker because it was 35-0. I'm just glad Bryant could get in there 2nd and 3rd string QB's and alot of second string D out there to get some playing time in. I'm thinking it's going to be another wipeout against parkview next week. But the big game is going to be against Conway weak after next. I have a feeling that Bryant will pull another win against Conway this year the way Conways defense has been playing.

Bryant 40
Parkview 8

Bryant vs Conway

by Hornet Fan

I could realy care less if Hillis ran for 350 yards, because that's going to be Conways total offense unless wardlow gets any carries, while Peeler throws for 400 yards and Bo Lee runs for 100. Bryants 500 yards to Conways 350. That's fine by me. I think Lance Parker had 500 yards by himself last year. Something like 400 yards passing and 100 yards rushing against Conways crappy defense. Bryant's defense held the "all mighty" Central to 3 total yards of offense in the second half a couple of weeks ago. I think they only had 150 yards the whole game. They just got good field position from bryants 8 turnovers that lost us the game.

Bryant 30
Conway 27

Bryant vs Cornway

by Peeler Fan

Let hillis run up 300+ yards rushing. Peeler is gona put up his 300+ yards passing. Then, Bo Lee will run over and around cornways D. Cornway Gives Wardlow a few caries for big yards. Now you have a close game. I just want to see Peeler tuck it and run. Todd Bryan will probably kick a few field goals, and that's how Bryant can win the game.

Bryant 38
Cornway 35

BRYANT CANT BEAT CONWAY AT OUR HOME LAST YEAR THEY BEAT US IN A REAL TIGHT GAME HE RAN ALL OVER US ON A MUDDY SLOPPY FIELD LANCE PARKER HAS SKILLS HE DID SIGN WITH VANDERBILT BRYANT DOESN'T HAVE A CHANCE. THERE DEF. SUCKS AND THEIR INEXPERIENCED QB WILL THROW INT. CONWAY'S OFF. IS UNSTOPPABLE ESPCIALLY BY A SLOW UNDERSIZED TEAM LIKE BRYANT.
I DONT KNOW WHY YALL THINK YOUR GOOD YOU SUCK AND YALL CHEAT

Prairie Grove has NO CLASS

by Enough is Enough

I have seen alot of football game's, from the field and from the stand's but what i and a couple hundred other's seen Friday night from Prairie Grove is upsetting to say the least. QB. Steven Truelove broke a good run around the end. Instead of bulling over the oncoming defender's Truelove ran out of bound's and settled for the frist down. He was a good 10' from the sideline's when one of Prairie Grove's brave young men blindsided him at full speed. No ejection for that so called player, just a flag from the ref's, who by the way could not have missed the cheap shot since it was so INTENTIONAL. Funny thing is the ref who was standing waiting for the Bobcat QB to give him the ball never touched his flag. Fifteen yard's is all Berryville got, and the price for those few yard's. Their starting QB out for the season. Alot of bad call's were made. Like calling two Bobcat TD's back, now i am still confused on those call's. Numerous holding call's were overlooked by the ref's, even when the Bobcat player's protested to them. Prairie Grove you need to know one thing. When you have the ball, and your QB takes the snap, you don't grab the defending team's leg's and hold on. Prairie Grove one thing, Green Forest is in week 8, try that on them. And one more thing. C.J. Matthews be careful when you run out of bound's after burning Prairie Grove for a good run. Prairie Grove thank's for showing Berryville how much class you really have. Berryville is not upset that they lost the game, they are upset because Prairie Grove had to sink as low as they did to do it.

Writer doesn't have a clue about what he is talking about!

by Anonymous

It truly a shame when people have to resort to blaming other people because they just have to blame some one. True, the hit was late. It was not intentional. I was right there when it happened. It is a shame that Steven Trulove was hurt, and I feel deeply for him. I do hope that he has a speedy recovery and will be able to return to basketball, and baseball. But for you to try to blame the tiger defender is stupid. Sometimes kids make bad choices, and this was one. I am sure that you never do that. I do know that the tiger player would never hurt any other player intentionally. We did get penalized just as deserved. This is football, and people get hurt. It is bad when they are out for the rest of the season. I can say that we have a clear conscience as to how it happened. Accident, poor choice, whatever, but UNINTENTIONAL.

PG's still on top

by

Hey all you people who think that Prairie Grove is just a bunch of cheap shotters. Get this PG won the conference. They beat Greenforest. An the player you guys were trashing, is one of the top ranked rushers and outside linebackers in the state. And the QB he hurt, wasn't exactly all that goody goody. Get off his back. It's football, it's his job to hit people. So quit your whining. PG killed berryville, 41-0. One player couldn't have turned that around. Let it go.

Who doesn't have Class?

by

So, you try and tell me that Prairie Grove doesn't have any class when you are the one bashing us behind our backs. We our one of the few teams who will help someone up after we knock them down, or make sure they are ok if we hurt them. We NEVER aim to hurt anyone INTENTIONALLY!!! The player who did hit the Berryville QB late felt awful. He, along with several of our school officials, called and checked on him Monday morning. Obviously, you have no clue what class is because you aren't from Prairie Grove. If we didn't have class we would have ran the score up on Berryville and Green Forest and whoever else crossed our paths when we got the chance!!! So maybe you need to recheck your definition of class!!!! Oh and by the way...Prairie Grove is the 3-AAA Conference champs. How CLASSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats Crap

by Diz#30

Hey bud, i dont know where your form but its ont our fault that penalty happened, had berryville painted their fieid b4 the game and we might have saw the lines and maybe that wouldntve happened.plus our player hitting him didnt cause him to get hurt, it was the gay track, plus he kept running after he got out of bounds and the 31 defense allows very little yards, as you can see the highest score allowed by us was 14 and that was farmington which we got aboiut 20 penalties in, so we know hwo it is to get cheap calls alright, so wherever your from quit being scared and put your name or at least where your form on here

Cheap shot

by option1

Friday Night, 10/10 @ Berryville. Prairie Grove came to play and were doing a good job. HOWEVER..when the Berryville quarterback, Trulove, completed a substantial gain and stepped out of bounds, he was blindsided by a Prairie Grove player and knocked onto the surrounding track. Trulove was assisted off the field with a knee injury. When a player is out of bounds he is supposed to be protected by the sidelines. This was such a blatent, deliberate hit on an unaware player to warrent criminal charges. The player responsible should have been ejected from the game. The head coach is also responsible for his players. He did nothing apparent to his player and sent him back in. The refs didn't either. It's one thing to sustain an injury while on the field, but when you are out of bounds long enough to be in the clear, that makes it a deliberate hit. Hey for only 15 yards, you can get by with it. AND it's all on film.
