that's because they're a rock band who does songs in japanese lol
i think the word 'jrock' implies that a band is based in japan. a japanese rock band singing in english is still jrock. yes? O_o
visual kei is a different matter i think. because it doesn't refer to where a band hails from. it refers to a certain type of band. so i think a visual band outside japan makes more sense. but on the other hand i still think the current western vk bands, the ones i've seen anyway, are still inferior to the real thing -- most aren't putting any effort into the visuals anyway. they could be influenced by vk and still try to make something new. also, because there's no real visual movement in the west, it makes very little sense to label a band as visual. they'll invariably be clumped with gothic. i mean, the whole visual kei thing, was it not put in place to unify a whole host of different bands that play different styles and share a certain visual aspect? and today some of them aren't even that visual, so it ends up being a lot like 'you are who you hang out with'. if you play the visual circuit you become linked to visual. that's my take on it anyway.
the japanese bands making american rock thing, i think they do exist? i'm reminded of those funny japanese greasers! :D |
