This was my first time mailing Japanese Yen (cash) to Japan, so I am worried I might have made the contents too obvious on the customs form for postal thieves... I was tempted to just put the value at $1 and say "paper," but I am extremely paranoid about seizures due to false declaration. I ended up putting "JPY" (because "cash" seemed too obvious) and "120" as the dollar amount (13,000yen was enclosed). Now, I'm pretty sure I'm in order with customs but... did I basically invite some postal employee to just crack open the envelope with the way I described the contents? And if so, how could I better handle this in the future?
The specifics...
Contents: Padded mailing envelope, Paper with order info, 13,000yen in cash (wrapped in paper)
Sent via: USPS registered mail (I have a tracking number)
Customs form: "Type: Gift, Contents: JPY, Value: $120" |
