I'm afraid there is absolutely no explanation possible that would keep the story a land before time story in accordance with the movies and the general atmosphere of the land before time. I think that humans, their devices, and what we would refer to as inhumanities (though there is hardly a species but humans committing them) should be kept out of the land before time!
