I consider this a very good idea

by (no login)

Of course there is no whatsoever obligation for anyone to give away anything, but I think it is a good idea to tell a little more about ourselves.
Malte is in fact my real name. I live in Dortmund, a town in Germany which those of you who are interested in soccer may know for it's soccer team "Borrussia Dortmund" (personally I'm not much into soccer, but I'm looking forward to meet people from all over the world during the world cup this year).

I've once been to Croatia in 2000, but back then I was on the island of Raab

You wonderin' anything?

by Sam (no login)

Hi there! Are you wondering about a certain dino? Are you sayin' "What kind of dinosaur is that?"? Well ask me!I know what all(well almost all) the dinosaurs are.
You can ask what one the characters (from a certain LBT movie) is.You can ask about one of the dinosaurs you saw.

So respond if you have one of those questions(or just respond so I know I'm not being ignored).

A strange fact

by Sam (no login)

Well his father(the dark green one) is a T.Rex.But I also found that his mother(the light brownish-green one) turned out to be an Allosaurus.Which is strange, cuz although they're both Theropods, T.rex & Allosaurus make an unusual couple.Besides,Allosaurus is the most ferocious theropod, even T.rex could get scared of it.That would be like marrying someone you fear.
Anyway, back on track,if his mom is an Allosaurus and his dad is a T.rex, who knows what to call Chomper?

Why do you say that Chomper's mom is an Allosaurus? To me Chomper's parents look identical except for skin color.

Not again :(

by (no login)

Chomper's mother is NOT an Allosaurus. She has two claws rather than three which makes it absolutely certain that she can't be an Allosaurus. You can see that she has only two claws on the screenshot I posted during the last "discussion".
If there is a strange fact it is that Chomper has sometimes two and sometimes three claws. A fact which can easily be explained by the need to give Chomper proper hands to enable him to grip things.

I've seen a blue plastic allosaurus with 2 claws,I've seen a yellow plastic one with 3 claws,AND I've seen two green plastic one's that had 5 claws. All of them were mistaken as a T. Rex until I read the bottom, where it said "ALLOSAURUS".

plastic dinosaurs

by (no login)

While there are some high quality plastic dinosaurs of great accuracy there are many which are from a scientific point of view utter rubbish. There are plastic dinosaurs holding rocket launchers or guns. That should not make us think that actual dinosaurs had such equipment. The very fact that there are figures with two, three, and five claws should leave no doubt about the scientific accuracy of those figures. Does it seem more likely that there were Allosauruses with different numbers of fingers or does it seem more likely that the producers of plastic figures didn't care so long their figures are bought by people. Complete sceletons of Allosaurus have been found leaving no doubt about the number of their claws. I really think that we should put more faith in the scientific value of original dinosaur fossils than in 20th or 21st century plastic figures. Many museums all over the world display complete sceletons of Allosaurus. Here is one (of many) examples. Look closely, it does have three claws:

Re: china toys

by (no login)

A huge majority of the plastic toys are being produced in China. That does not make those toys bad. There are some very accurate Chinese dinosaur figures on the market. However, with the huge amount of toys that bear no whatsoever claim of any accuracy they shouldn't be considered an argument in a serious discussion. Complete fossilles of Allsoaurus have been found leaving no doubt about the question. An Allosaurus with two or five or anything other than three claws is not accurate and neither of Chomper's parents is an Allosaurus.

I have to admit, I have had a few series of LBT dreams that all seemed to follow each other. I was in there but it was a little while back so I can't remember them very well. Have to say I enjoyed them but most of my dreams I can't remember when I wake up anymore...sad that, coz dreams can be very interesting...

Re: i am thinking pf writing a lbt fanfiction

You could try to make it a story which actually sticks to the land before time as we know it from the movies (without crossing overs, humans, science-fiction or other non-LBT elements). Would you prefer a story which plays mainly inside the Great Valley or would you rather go for one which is set mainly in the Mysterious Beyond?
There are many possibilities left for LBT stories either way.

This is not my specialty...

by Noname (no login)

... but, I do have a few ideas for a strictly land before time fanfiction story with no science fiction, magic, or humans at all.

1. Bron's heard and the old ones's (Ali's) herd meet up and migrate to the great valley together. Complications ensue when Bron (whose wife is dead) marries (or mates with?) Ali's mother (whose husband is either dead or unseen.) When they reach the great valley, everyones relationship to each other is revealed. More complications ensue.

2. Petrie's father arrives in the great valley, and learns that he has children (how many are there?)
Petrie wonders where his father was all this time (like LBT ten, I know.) After a long story, more complications ensue (such as Pterano returning, or yet another natural disaster.)

3. Tria lays eggs! (enough said)

These are just some of the feasable, non-science fiction ideas that are strictly related to the series.

There's a difference between trying...

... to write a fanfiction, and actually writing one well. If I were to try to portray the characters, they would be bland and stiff. I'm not good with writing about emotional, living characters.

Re: There's a difference between trying...

But what makes it so much more difficult to write a fanfiction based on the land before time as we know it from the movies without an excessive amount of violence or inclusion of any science-fiction elements whatsoever. If one has a good plot idea, why not giving a land before time story a try that fulfills the requirements for a land before time movie?

Non-LBT related items in LBT fanfics

by Littlefoot-1616 (no login)

Hey guys!

I know this is an age old argument for Malte...and I can always see two sides of a story. I think nowadays people think of fanfics as a chance to make cameo appearances of their favourite characters in a situation they is most appealing to them. It's especially gritty with LBT because of the lack of technology and human understanding that, I think, a lot of fanfic writers find an insurmountable barrier to try and conquer. So, in light of that, they decide to destroy the barrier by removing it altogether. I'm not saying it's a pathetic way out or cheating, but it just makes it that little bit more easier to apply new rules to patch up the old ones they've decided not to abide by. I'm no saint in the matter as though who have read my LBT fanfic all well know of what's included but, I reckon people feel their imagination is threatened by the idea of NOT being allow to include things like "alien crafts crash-landing in the Great Valley" or"humans time travelling back to the dinosaur time" for whatever reason...

It's all down to the author and yet, it is not the reader's obligation to decide what is included. They may make suggestions but it's down to the writer to have the final say. That and the reader is again under no obligation to read the fanfic if he/she feels it doesn't apply/interest them.

Ciao for now!

The title of the land before time 12 is "The day of the flyers" and it is scheduled for 2007. There has been no month for the release date yet, but the last two LBT movies were released in January and it may well be the same for LBT 12.

Re: Two kinds of movies

by (no login)

Most of LBT 4, and considerable sections of LBT 7 and 8 play outside the Valley though (in LBT 8 in fact all have to leave the Valley for lack of food though they don't have to go far). There is kind of a repetition of disasters striking the Great Valley. However, such events are one of the easiest possibilities to make a story of. Something must be done to the world around the dinosaurs to make them do something we find interesting (so long they live safe and secure with enough to eat and to dring they have no reason to do anything special.
Actually I am exaggerating there. Of course they may do something, but that would require a much more complex story line.

Plenty of people know I'm into LBT and they don't say anything about it. On numerous occasions people have asked me WHY im into it but I just tell them it's a part of my childhood that just stayed with me. That's the only real reason I can give but it's not like I need an excuse to like LBT. Most of the people I know have heard of or have at least seen the first LBT but not a lot know about the sequels. I think maybe my age bracket can relate to it coz we were growing up with it as it was release but for me it meant a little more. Not that that's anything to be ashamed of...

I saw the video today in a theater

by Dinomommy (no login)

Hi all,

I have lurked here in the past, mostly because my kids are big LBT fans, and have posted a few times... anyway thought you guys would be interested in this! We went to see "Curious George" today and WOW! my kids were so excited to see a video from the "Day of the Flyers" movie!!! It was called something like "Flip, Flap, Fly" (I know that's not right... can't beleive I am forgetting already!) Anyway I am certainly not as well versed in LBT stuff as all of you (and I say that with the utmost respect! : ) ) but it looked and sounded very much like the last few movies. It showed the 5 regulars (didn't see Chomper) and there was a quick shot of Mo, is he in the movie? There was also a shot of two smaller triceratops which at first I thought were the twins (Cera's cousins?) but my kids tell me it wasn't (they are probably right!) They were a greenish color I think. There were lots of small "flyers" in the video flying around with Petrie. Oh, and another character had a small but significant speaking part in the video so is this a new character? Not sure what kind of dino it was...might have been some sort of flyer. My kids want to go see the movie again, just to see the video again! : ) Anyway a quick search of the internet didn't give me a release date except for 2007 which I thought was early to be previewing in the theaters already. But on the website I looked at it referred to a 26 episode series on Cartoon Network in 2007? What do you know about this? So, if you want a preview yourselves, go check out Curious George! (It was a cute movie too!!!)

Thank you very much!
Till now I haven't read any such detailed description of the flip, flap, and fly movie. There is almost nothing known about LBT 12 yet, apart from the title ("The day of the flyers") and apart from what is shown in that video. An appearance of Mo need not mean that he will return in the movie (there was a similar guest appearance of him in the LBT 10 song "Adventuring"), but the appearance of a new character in the movie can be taken almost for granted. There hasn't been any LBT sequel yet that did not come up with at least one new character.
