Arrogance

by Noname (no login)

I just noticed something in the land before time X. When it looked like Littlefoot would be leaving with his father, Bron may have said something to discourage his son (remember, Littlefoot was not sure of the right course of action.) Bron said (and I quote), "I can't wait to show you to the herd at home. I've told them I've always had a son somewhere. I can't wait to see the looks on thier-" (and then Littlefoot cuts his father off.)
This sounds somewhat ignoble to me (" I can't wait to see the looks on their-") What do you think?

P.S. If I misquoted at any point, please let me know.

What's arrogant about that?

by (no login)

All he was going to say was :"I cant wait to see the looks on their faces." Bron was most likely just thinking about how surprised the herd would be when he showed up with his long lost son. I dont see how he could have said that to discourage Littlefoot from going with him.

Much as I dislike Bron...

...(for I really don't think he fits into the concept of the land before time the way they squezed him into it) I still don't see any particular display of arrogance in this remark of him either.

I don't see why everyone dislikes Bron.

by Drew L. (no login)

Personally, I think he is just a victem of bad writing. Other than that, his character is okay by me.

Not everyone dislikes Bron and I do agree with your view of him being a victim to bad writing. I do not generally disapprove of the idea of Littlefoot's father being involved in LBT. However, they ought to have been much more careful about such a tremendous event. They didn't even come up with a plausible explanation for his absence, which is just one out of many things that remain unexplained (they were subject of discussion already, so I won't repeat it again).
Through the careless handling of the story Bron himself appeared worse a character than he may be actually. They could have done so much better. Still none of these might have beens makes me think higher of the way they really DID introduce him.

It was very out of character for Littlefoot's Grandpa to do that.

by Drew L. (no login)

Who'd come right up and introduce your dad like that, without first prepping Littlefoot for the shock, first?

I still find it very plausible that Littlefoot's Dad just didn't know the way to the Great Valley. Not all the dinos did. Littlefoot's mother had to remind him, remember? And, sometimes, in desperation and grief, people don't think straight. The most obvious answer is not always the most obvious. I've seen things like that happen to a person.

Signs of depression

by Noname (no login)

I was reading through some of the old posts on this forum, and I came across one that mentioned Littlefoot's depression (or sadness, as it were.) I wonder how much Littlefoot thinks about his dead mother, even though she is only mentioned in four movies (I have not yet seen movie 11, but I don't think that she is mentioned there.)
The potent scene in the ninth movie was probably when Littlefoot mentioned his mother (about why he does not have a brother.) It appears that when he is not doing anything, or thinking about anything, his thoughts return to those of his dead mother, which is why he became so unduly sad when his friends were all occupied in the ninth movie.
Another sign of this is in the tenth movie (during that awful second song.) During that song, we see a shot of Littlefoot looking sad (thinking about his mother, perhaps), and we see his father (whom I don't like) cheering him up.

Hi!
Littlefoot also mentions his mother in the 5th movie's song "Always there", and it is certainly interesting to take a look at what the song says, and that it makes Littlefoot think of his mother rather than his grandparents.
In general I don't think that Littlefoot is frequently depressed thinking about the "might have beens" if his mother had survived.
All this is just interpretation on my part which can't be proved, but I think that Littlefoot does have sort of "melancholic" moments at times during which he thinks of his mother, or maybe even senses her presence (listens to the voice of his heart) as he did in the original movie.
Yet I don't think that Littlefoot permits these moments of melancholy to take over his life. Even though he is often more earnest than the others are usually, he is certainly not a totally depressed character.

A thought provoking question...

by noname (no login)

... Perhaps Littlefoot is not better off at the end of the first movie? (at least in his own mind.) In the beggining of the movie, his mother was alive, but he was not at the Great Valley. In the end of the movie, he was at the Great Valley, but his mother was dead. This reduces the question to (ommiting his grandparents and friends), what he would prefer more, to be at the Great Valley, or for his mother to still have been alive?

P.S. This may be obvious, but Littlefoot never saw both of his parents at any one place at the same time, and he never will.

Erm...

Simple. Littlefoot had no choice. Else he would be dead like his mother, so... he is better off at the Great Valley.

Most likely he would have never got to know the others

Hi!
Of course I don't know, but I doubt Littlefoot ever really thought about the whole matter in a way of evaluating what he lost against what he won.
A very interesting point is that, had his mother survived, he had almost certainly never made close contact with Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike.

"Daddy Topps"

by (Login Malte279)
Forum Owner

Hi!
Indeed the link at the top of the page leads to nothing as there is no short bio of Cera's father at www.landbeforetime.org. I'm going to tell the creator so it may be brought up, though it may take a while.
Cera's father is a character quite frequently mentioned in this and other land before time forums, so you may find some interesting thoughts about him by checking out the message titles for anything striking.
Did you realize that his voice actor often got credit for voicing "Daddy Topps"? So it may be that "Topps" is his actual name, though he was never called this in the first 10 LBT movies. I haven't seen the 11th movie yet, in which he apparently finds a new mate (unfortunately without any explanation about what happened to Cera's mother whom we haven't seen since the original movie). According to what I heard Cera's father is refered to as "Toppsy" by his new mate.
For quite a while already I'm working with a land before time story that has a focus on Cera, her family and threehorns in general. So it also deals with him quite a bit. In general Cera's dad is a character involved in many fanfictions.

Just an html error

by (Login Malte279)

Hi!
The absence of Cera's father's bio was just due to a mistake in the html script. My friend corrected the error so you will find the bio now. Thank you for pointing out the mistake which wouldn't have been found otherwise.

Littlefoot

by LBT Lover (no login)

Does anyone notice that Littlefoot is the only charactor that seems to always have a differnt voice. Also how come you never see any other young longnecks in the Great Valley. I mean there are plenty of other Longnecks there.

Voices and Longnecks

by (Login Malte279)
Forum Owner

Hi!
The fact that the voice of a boy changes more than the voice of a girl during the maturing process may be one reason for Littlefoot's frequent change of voice (6 times) if compared to Cera or Ducky. I'm not sure, but I think that the speaker of Petrie, Jeff Bennett is grown up, so his voice doesn't change anymore and he will be able to speak Petrie ever on. Spike doesn't speak very much, but I think his utterances are also made by a grownup.
As for longnecks, you are right that we didn't see much of the many longnecks Littlefoot's mother talked about in the original movie. Grownup longnecks can be seen in the background of some sequels (e.g. LBT 6), but in other sequels where one would expect to get a glimpse on the other longnecks of the Great Valley (especially LBT 4 and 10) don't show any other than Littlefoot and his grandparents.

Perhaps you can find them through ebay. Even if you don't want to buy them that way you may be able to find out who produces them, which would certainly make it easier to find them.

LBT XI trailer is available

by (no login)

http://www.landbeforetime.com/

All I can say is horrible, just plain horrible. They have just fallen deep into the eternal realm of mediocre childrens' cartoons. First of all, why is Littlefoot looking at a huge "land before time" logo? This is absolutely terrible. And the music, it sounds exactly like those early-morning cartoons I used to watch. I know this is a commercial, but it sure is a pretty bad one.

An interview with Charles Grosvenor

by (Login Malte279)
Forum Owner

Hi!
I've just tried to find out a little about Charles Grosvenor. There is not much about him in the web, but I did find an interview with some quotable passages which I consider interesting as they sort of refer to points which I really dislike about his most recent movies. The interview is at: http://www.bates.edu/x47791.xml
the most striking quote as far as I'm concerned is:
"Grosvenor: We have a very narrow window of audience age-wise, so we have to constantly be aware of what is too much for them to deal with. If we have an attack by a T-Rex or a predator, or even a guest dinosaur, how nasty can we make that? We always have to keep in mind what is tolerable for the kids to watch."
