Outcut land before time scene

by (no login)

I came accross another picture from a scene not shown in the original land before time movie. Don't get your hopes up, it is not revealing anything new:

The scene obviously shows sharptooth's death after he fell into the pond. There was a similar scene in LBT, but it seems that in the movie they cut out the beginning of this scene showing sharptooth close to the surface with more light than during the moment shown in the movie (which looks rather shadowy).
The only room for speculation here is the possibility of a scene in which Petrie may have been shown wrenching free from Sharptooth's jaws.
This is just a speculation, but such a scene may have been considered "too scary for kids" while I don't see anything significantly scarier about the picture above than about what was shown in the movie as we know it.
The scene seems to be painted on canvas (you can clearly see the structure). Did they do that for all the land before time scenes?

I don't mean to argue but there's something that causes me to think that Sharptooth didn't die but the reason why is REALLY hard to explain.

Ducky mad?

by Sam (no login)

In LBT 8: The Big Freeze, Ducky claimed that she "did not know how to be mad". This is not true, in the previous films there were times that she got mad. Here are some examples...

* In the first film, when she found Spike's egg, the top started cracking making a "crack circle" and Spike peaked his eye through a hole and saw Ducky and moved his head back. Then Ducky got mad and flung the top off being tired of waiting.

* Then there's LBT 5 The Mysterious Island, when at night Ducky said to Spike that she would miss Littlefoot, Cera, and Petrie but not Spike because he was still with her, then Petrie appeared and sayed something (I don't remember what, though) and Ducky got mad and sayed "Then maybe I won't miss you either"

* In LBT 6 The Secret of Saurus Rock, when the gang was crossing the log, Ducky pointed out that if she fell it would be a long fall, then Petrie said that there was a river down there and she'd probably fall in it and since she's a swimmer she can swim out and find a way up. Then Ducky sarcasticly said she felt "so much better"

* Also in LBT 6, she got mad at Cera when she told Dinah and Dana to get lost.

* She even got mad in LBT 8! The film where she stated that quote. She got mad when Spike ate her tree stars, which was before Cera taught her to be mad.

So what's up with that?

Re: Ducky mad?

by (no login)

On the one hand we can take it for granted that until LBT 8 was produced nobody thought of Ducky as bein "unable" to get mad. Therefore we see quite a few frowns and scowls from her throughout LBT 1 to 7. Nevertheless I think there is a difference between the "mad" in LBT 8 and the cases we saw earlier.
In Spike's hatching scene for example I wouldn't think of Ducky's emotion to be any more than impatience.
In LBT 5 she was shocked at Petrie's statement that he wouldn't miss her (before she got the meaning that this meant they would stay together).
In the moment from LBT 6 you describe she is probably frustrated about Petrie's not very reassuring remark in a moment when she is rather scared.
In LBT 6 I saw pity with Dinah and Dana and reproach for Cera rather madness in Ducky's reaction.
There are several more examples from the earlier movies (e.g. Ducky looks clearly annoyed after Spike almost "ate" her along with a treestar at the beginning of LBT 5).

However, each single case had a major difference to what we saw in LBT 8. All the previous cases were just moments in which she felt annoyed, but she never ever held her possible grudge for more than a few moments. In LBT 8 we had a very lasting anger built up through a number of problems she had with Spike (being unable to sleep with him snoring beside her, his eating of her treestar, his jeering her during Mr. Thicknose's lesson (and Mr. Thicknose's presenting Spike as a positive example to her anyway), his behaviour during the game after that lesson...). Much more anger had built up in Ducky there over a longer space of time. She could no longer shrug it of the way she had always done on earlier ocassions. This I think is the difference between Ducky being momentarily annoyed in the earlier movies and being really mad in LBT 8.

Looking at all the cases in which Ducky might have been mad in the earlier movies but seemed to be very accepting (showing emotions like sadness, resignation, or even understanding and pity for whom she should be mad at) we get a long list.

In LBT 1 there are two scenes (just after they found the copse of trees and a herd of longneck causes a little "earthshake" and during their journey between the burning mountains) in which she urges Spike to get on, but she does so with desperation rather than anger.

In LBT 2 she never shows a sign of madness towards the eggeaters who tried to eat one of her unhatched brothers or sisters. Some scolding she utters at the sharptooth sounds defiant rather than genuinly angry.

In LBT 3 she seems to be the least angry about Hyp, Nod, and Mutt and most ready to support Littlefoot's suggestion of the bullies to play along with them at the beginning of the movies. Even the strange behaviour of the grownups doesn't seem to bother her as much as Littlefoot and Cera (which brings us to the question how Ducky's and Spike's parents and Petrie's mother behaved during the time). She didn't get mad at Spike for making it so hard for them to wake him up either.

In LBT 4 unlike Cera (of course) and Petrie (not quite so of course) Ducky doesn't utter any reservations against Ali. Nor is it her to point out that Cera didn't originally mean to come along on the rescue mission for Littlefoot.

In LBT 5 we have two twinges of anger both of which are very fleeting however. She doesn't show any sign of anger coming from the long miserable journey in the beginning (neither do Spike and Petrie, while the effects got Littlefoot and Cera (who otherwise might have grown kind of accustomed to their parents talk) into a fight).

In LBT 6 Ducky several times seems to act as kind of a calm counterpart to Cera who tries to blame her anger on others.

In LBT 7 Ducky of all characters (with the possible exception of Petrie) shows the least outright anger about Pterano, and about being abducted by him.

News on the land before time 12 - SPOILER

by (no login)

Hi!
There is some information on the plot of LBT 12 at last. So those of you who don't want to know anything yet shouldn't read this message to the end as it does contain spoilers. Stitch from the Gang of Five land before time board found a page giving the following information:

Petrie is having a difficult time preparing for “the day of the flyers”, an important day for all of the flying residents of the Great Valley, when all of the young flyers must participate in a very precise flying exhibition to prove that they are ready to fly with the adults. Always a nervous flyer, Petrie has even more trouble flying with his sibling in precise group formations—he’s more of an independent, free-style kind of guy.
At the same time, a strange newcomer to the Great Valley has Littlefoot and his friends trying to help figure out just exactly what he is. Named Guido, he’s the strangest looking creature any of the Great Valley creatures has ever seen, especially since he’s covered with multicolored “fuzzies” (feathers!), and has never seen another like himself. Cera is having her own troubles, as her grumpy Dad and his new mate, Tria, get ready to welcome a hatchling to the family.
All of these issues come together on the night before “the Day of the Flyers”, when Guido starts to figure out what he is, inadvertently leading all of the gang on a perilous adventure into the Mysterious Beyond.

He didn't save the link of the page (and is trying to recover it), but nevertheless the information is likely to be genuine. It is in accordance with some information that was released before and there is also a French webpage giving the same information (in French obviously). The link of that French page is:

Stitch recovered the url of the webpage. It includes the cover of the 12th movie which is ultimately not titled "The day of the flyers" but "The Great day of the flyers". I need to check out if more results are to be achieved by searching for that complete title. This is the url of the page:

Lyrics of Flip Flap and Fly

by (no login)

Yes, that clip was released some time ago. I never saw it myself, but a land before time fan from the GOF did and told us about the lyrics of the song. Here they are:
Sibling 1: (Hey Petrie) You’re looking good

Sibling 2: You’re Looking Fine

All: You’re doing great
Just like we knew you would

Petrie: Me never think that me could be
Flying in a line with me family

All: Flip, flap, flip flap and fly; Flip, flap, flip flap and fly

Mrs. Flyer: You never know what you can do until you try

Petrie: Me had to find me own way to flip flap and fly

Littlefoot: You’ve got a gift

Petrie: Me know its true
No one else can do it just the way me do

Plumed dino: We’re all the same, and we’re unique

Petrie: From the tip of me wing

Plumed dino: To the bent in me beak

Petrie: Flip, flap, flip flap and fly; Flip, flap, flip flap and fly

All: We’re moving together in the same big sky
We’ve got our own way to flip flap and fly

(Purple flyer scatting)

Purple flyer: If you wanna, wanna, wanna fly low, fly low

Green flyer: If you wanna, wanna, wanna fly high, fly high

All: Flip, flap, flip flap and fly; Flip, flap, flip flap and fly
We’re moving together in the same big sky
We’ve got our own way

Petrie: Me got me own way

All: We all got our own way
Flip, flap, flip flap and fly; Flip, flap, flip flap and fly
You got to flip flap, flip flap and fly
We’ve got our own way to flip, flap, and fly

Purple Flyer: Oh yeah

American Tail 5?

I wouldn't object any movie provided it is a good story which is being realized in a good way. I haven't seen any American Tail movie after the second however. Same as with LBT I don't think Don Bluth was involved in the production of any of the sequels at all. I'm not a hundred percent certain what Don Bluth is doing these days (I think he is working with his Dragon Lair projects) but he (or Gary Goldman) can be asked about it on his webpage at www.donbluth.com.

This is a spoof where Littlefoot and his friends try to stop the Asteroid colliding with earth and wiping out the dinosaurs. It contains swearing and blasphemy, though. And it's weird!

While I'm welcoming a good parody even on stories etc. I'm fond of I can't say I found that clip to be a good parody. It seemed more like one of those videos from people who dislike LBT and can't get over the fact that more sequels are being produced in spite of the fact that they personally dislike them. There are several movies / pictures out there which such people created. I would be quite willing to join the laughter if there was anything funny to laugh about in their productions, but I can't say I found anything funny about them.

Other parodies of other films

by Sam (no login)

I've seen this parody of The Lion King called "The Lion King in a nutshell cracked and spilled on the floor". It shows a whole bunch of scenes from The Lion King and there's kids saying voices for it. There's also one for The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and The Lion King 1 1/2 (one and a half). And there's this thing called "Biatch and the Beast" that parodies Beauty and the Beast. They're also weird and have some swearing.

Dumbest moment in a LBT sequel?

by AndrewAnorak (no login)

Direct to video/DVD animated sequels tend to be on the "rushed out to cash in on our characters" side, and LBT, with 10 sequels and counting, must have spawned some cringeworthy moments!

Re: Dumbest moment in a LBT sequel?

In my opinion there were several awkward moments with Tippy, the little stegosaurs in LBT 8, in which he reminded me very much of a Teletubby. In the German version of LBT 7 Cera uses a hardly translateable term to describe the smell of the volcanic spring (in the English version she says eggstealer breath) which also sounded kind of awkward.
I need to watch some sequels again, but these are the moments that come to my mind. Which are yours?

Sharptooth/Villain species

by Sam (no login)

Hi I,ve made list thing for the sharpteeth and villains in the films.

*There's the sharptooth that Doc/The Lone Dinosaur fought and returned in the sixth film

*The three different colored sharpteeth in the tenth film

Struthiomimus

*Ozzy and Strut those silly villainous egg stealers

Velociraptors

*A pack of raptors atacked the dinosaurs in the third film

Deinosuchus

*Dil the crocodile from LBT 4

*The crocodile from LBT 10

Ichtyornis

*Ichy from LBT 4

Okay anyway..

Shark/Megalodon

*The swimming sharptooth in LBT 5

Giganotosaurus

* That sharptooth from LBT 5

Tarbosaurus

* In LBT 6 the credits said Allosaurus but both the sharpteeth had two claws

* The sharptooth in LBT 8 who got defeated by a big snowball (without even thinking of moving)

*Also in my first message I mentioned Chomper's mom being able to get up after triping on the vine, could Chomper be in a Tarbosaurus family?

Ramphorynchus

*Rinkus from LBT 7

Cieradactylus(sorry forgot how to spell it)

*Sierra from LBT 7

Deinonychus
*The sharpteeth from the flashback in LBT 7

*The sharpteeth in LBT 11

Liopluerodon

*The Sharptooth Swimmer from LBT 9 (however it could be a Kronosaurus)

So there I have it

Actually, the sharptooth in LBT 5 was a Carnotaurus, although it is bigger than it should be.

Sorry but you're mistaken

by Sam (no login)

It wasn't a Carnotaurus, it was too big, not enough claws, too long arms. Even ask Malte, he said that by head and skull it could be a Giganotosaurus.

Not Megalodon

by Cera2002 (no login)

The shark wasn't a Megalodon as Megalodon evolved to prey on prehistoric whales I think it was a contemporary species thrown in because sharks in the Mesizoic looked like the ones in Walking with Dinosaurs I forget the name.

Very interesting list Sam!

by (no login)

Thank you for posting it here.
As for the LBT 5 sharptooth, I think Sam is right.
A Carnotaurus distinguished throught the horns it sported from it's head. Looking at screenshots from LBT 5 there are two bums which might be interpreted as horns, but these bumps are in the same color as the sharptooth's skin. However, a Carnotaurus would have been considerably smaller than a T-Rex (25 feet vs. 40 feet in length), while the slightly taller Giganotosaurus (ca. 45 feet) would have the more realistic relation in size to Chomper's parents (who seem to be of similar size in most scenes).

Well, I don't think the LBT 5 sharptooth is a Giganotosaurus. It looks more like a Allosaurus. Just look at the "bumps" above its eyes. It is typical for an Allosaurus. As far as I know the Giganotosaurus didn't have such distinctive knobs on its head.

Allosaurus / Giganotosaurus

by (no login)

Allosaurus was of similar size to T-Rex, so the question of size would not "disqualify" him from being the LBT 5 sharptooth.
Here is a photo of an Allosaur skull:

And here is one of a Giganotosaurus:

The skull of the Allosaur appears to be more pointy and less round than that of the Allosaur (which doesn't look too different from a T-Rex skull). In fact the skull of a T-Rex tends to be a little less pointy than that of an Allosaur. Here we have a T-Rex skull:

Now if we take a look at the heads of the LBT 5 sharptooth and that of Chomper's parents the skull of the unknown sharptooth seems to be less pointy and more bulky than that of Chomper's father or mother. Therefore I consider it very unlikely for the unknown sharptooth to be an Allosaur. You can also see those bumps on the head of the LBT 5 sharptooth which could be horns, but he really seems too tall for a carnotaurus:

I cannot give any definite proof of that sharptooth being a Giganotosaurus either, though it seems to be the most likely possibility to me. I suppose we already spend more thought on it than the makers of the movie probably did

Acrocanthasaurus

by Cera2002 (no login)

I think personally it was an Acrocanthasaurus an early creatacous dinosaur from North America there's an Acrocanthasaurus in A Jurassic Park Video game called Warpath which has a similar build and color pattern to the unknown sharptooth plus the arms are to long for a Carnotaur which had even stumpier forelegs than a t-rex, there are carnotaurs in Dinosaur although in Dinosaur they're too big. As for the sharptooth in season six I figured it was subspecies of t-rex or a different tyrannosaurid like albertosurus as the jaws are different than the green t-rexes in the movies.

I don't think so

by (no login)

I'm pretty sure Acrocanthosaurus had a small sail on its back. Anyway, it's not a very well-known dinosaur so I doubt whether the filmmakers would even have heard of it. For this same reason I doubt the LBT V sharptooth is a Giganotosaurus since LBT V was made in 1997 and Giganotosaurus was only described in 1995.

The sharptooth in LBT VI is an Allosaurus. It says so in the credits.
