If you look at UNS on Bigcharts, the history doesn't go back beyond 1999 and the price varies between 10 and 25, making it look like it's NOT a TW stock at all.

Then I look at my Horsey chart and it shows UNS back to 1985. There's an obvious accumulation going on, possibly, from 1991 and the jump to 25 looks like a false breakout.

The Bigchart, then, magnifies the short term. The Horsey backs away and shows the longterm view is VERY TW-like.

This is one stock that I would say would be worth going beyond TW and just out of curiousity look at the fundamentals. It's an energy company based in Arizona. We all know how touchy energy is these days what with California's boondoggle in privatization and Enron and all of that.

I might be paranoid, but could it be possible that Bigcharts is involved in a conspiracy to hide the true appearance of UNS? It's 'as if' that's true, because the chart looks absolutely fabulous from Horsey's view.

I'll be shopping UNS around for opinions.

I'll be pointing out UNS to other TW forum readers and see what kind of a reaction it engenders. I think it's a really important TW stock-- but some of the charts are misleading.
I'd like everyone who's here (or "still" here after the brouhaha) to comment one way or another on this stock. Everyone. That means you. Thanks. Let's get some work accomplished here instead of getting hurt feelings and offering our "opinion".

UNS had a reverse-stock-split in 96, 1:5. What does this mean? Nothing, really, except that they were probably in danger of being delisted. This is the easy way to solve those threats. In 96, it would have meant "stay away". We are well beyond such concerns now, though. The recent move above 15 and past 20 disappeared about as quickly as it came. There really hasn't been a "drying up of the volume". With a classic long base like this, i think it would be a requirement. The stock split might be affecting this though(notice the volume picks up by nearly 50% after the split). The volume on the spike was a little higher, but not much. Looks more like just a nice(profitable) bump in the road. Notice how the angle of spike is nearly the same on both sides of the apex? A lot of hangers-on and quick profit-takers getting off there. Defineately a strong candidate, but i would wait for at least the volume to dry up which will probably be accompanied by a gentle downtrend from the main base. The second it pops and holds onto its gains would be the best entry. The volume may not dry up, and that last pop was the "sucker-bait" move to get rid of the last of the weak. The next move up would hold its position on immediate high volume that gradually diminishes. If this happens, then you would either buy at that point or confirm by waiting for the next move to begin. It's a heck of a base. Defineately worth discussion. -----alan

Thanks for that analysis, Alan. Much appreciated.

For the other readers, I can vouch for Alan's TW angle here, in as much as I recall my TW material.

I like your acknowledgement that we have "one heck of a base" here. This is about the simplest type of TW chart to spot in a chart book.

The main problem on UNS is determining an entry point and Alan's given us some hints here worth considering. I don't imagine any sane TW trader would be in UNS yet. This stock is definitely to be watched, though.

I'd like everyone here to take a look at UNS and comment on it. Thanks. Chuck, daBoomer, dk, Dot etc.

i think the 'cant miss' buy level is 50, but if it were to start making a 'stair step' or conistent upward movement, i'd get it at 25. This depends on how it climbs. Like i said, the stairstep seems to always point to great things ahead. Just something i've noticed, i think i've listed several 'stair master' stocks previously.

If I had free funds now, I'd buy a little at the lower levels, and if it broke the 50 level i'd increase my position substantially. BUT DO WHAT YOU WILL..

I'm more interested in SHORTING IBM AND JPM right now.

Is that un American? HELL NO!

Not taking profits in UN American
